European Commission — Solving Conflicts over Natural Resources in Kenya

The European Commission to strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations in Kenya in addressing the conflicts revolving around land tenure and access to natural resource. The following activities will be supported under this call: capacity building, land mediation initiatives involving local communities, projects of women’s and youth organisation, research, awareness raising and advocacy activities. Grants requested under this call for proposals must fall between €500 thousand and €1 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations registered in anywhere in the world. (Note: If the lead applicant is not established in Kenya, it must act with minimum one co-applicant established in Kenya.) The deadline for submission of concept notes is 14 May 2019. Link

U.S. Mission to South Africa — Reducing Demand for Wildlife

The U.S. Embassy South Africa invites organizations to submit applications to carry out a public marketing campaign for audiences in South Africa for illicit wildlife products (rhino horn, elephant ivory, pangolins, vultures, and other trafficked flora and fauna). The campaign should focus on the historic South African cultural and natural heritage value of these threatened/endangered species as shown through literature, song, art, storytelling, etc. A Grant of US$30 thousand is available under this call. Climate Tracker — 10-Month Fellowship on Climate Solutions

Climate Tracker, in partnership with the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, seeks five young climate journalists to participate in an online mentorship on climate solutions and journalism. The fellows will receive training on how to write articles on climate change and a monthly stipend of US$150. Applicants that are between 18 and 30 years old and are living in Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, South Asia, or Asia-Pacific are eligible. To participate, applicants have to write, publish, and submit a 500+ words article (in any language) on local solutions and responses to climate change. International Union for Conservation of Nature — Red List of Ecosystems Photo Contest

IUCN announces the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems Photo Contest – My Place in Nature. The contest is open to all photographers and aspiring photographers worldwide. Participants are invited to share their story on ecosystems and show their very own place in nature. Winners will be announced on IUCN Red List of Ecosystems social media and exhibited at the IUCN World Conservation Congress. ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Youth — ASEAN Youth Video Contest

The ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Youth (SOMY) announces the 5th ASEAN Youth Video Contest (AYVC) focused on the theme “Renewable Energy:  Powering ASEAN’s Bright Future”. Young ASEAN filmmakers are invited to submit a 60-second video on the theme “Renewable Energy” showcasing what renewable energy sources mean to the future of youth and the region. The competition is open to amateur filmmakers (18 to 30 years old) from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. 10 selected finalists will participate in a video production workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam (April 2019). Earth Journalism Network — Bay of Bengal Story Grants

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers grants to journalists in the Indian and Bangladeshi regions of the Bay of Bengal to support in-depth stories on climate and environmental change. ENJ seeks in-depth stories that focus on climate and environmental change, such as climate-induced migration, agricultural and water issues or food security in the Bay of Bengal region. EJN expects to award around 15 grants averaging US$1 thousand each. Journalists from print, web, radio and television are eligible. Earth Journalism Network — Investigating Illegal Wildlife Trafficking in Europe

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers grants to support stories focused on monitoring and investigating the illegal wildlife trade in Europe. Typical grant sizes for this project are in the range of US$4 thousand to US$6 thousand (in special cases up to US$10 thousand). Investigative journalists with prior experience covering wildlife crime are invited to apply. Journalists interested in applying for funding have to contact EJN via email. Internews Earth Journalism Network (EJN) seeks applications from journalists to take part in a media workshop on climate change reporting in the Bay of Bengal. The workshop will focus on climate change in the region, with a focus on how at-risk communities are responding to environmental pressures. National Geographic Society — Science Communication

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals addressing environmental issues by communicating science. The NGS seeks proposals from around the world that advance the science of nature communication by systematically testing visual communication and education methods. The call is intended for visual artists, photographers, and videographers who aim to more effectively create and use images or video to overcome apathy towards species and ecosystems. Typical proposal requests should be less than US$30 thousand, but applicants may request up to US$50 thousand. The current grant cycle closes 10 April 2019. Details here

National Geographic Society — Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals for its program “Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution” from all around the world. The aim is to explore solutions to reduce marine plastic pollution (including behavior change). Projects may be focused around conservation, education, research, storytelling, or technology. Preference will be given to applicants who are residents or citizens of the country of fieldwork as well as to projects with strong local capacity development components.
