International RiverFoundation — Thiess International Riverprize 2021

The Thiess International Riverprize 2021 invites applications from any organization or partnership that has implemented a successful program benefiting a river, lake, wetland, or estuary in any part of the world. This year, the emphasis will be on building community and river resilience rather than recovery. The winner will receive the cash prize and a trophy. The application deadline is 31 May 2021. International Development Research Centre — Gender in STEM Research Initiative

Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) announces a new funding opportunity to advance gender analysis and women’s leadership in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. This initiative will support university-led consortia to expand and deepen scholarship in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Africa, on the challenges and opportunities that women scientists experience in STEM fields. IDRC will provide CA$1 million to CA$1.25 million per research consortium. The call is open to public universities from low- and middle-income countries in Africa, Asia, or Latin America/Caribbean. U.S. National Academy of Sciences — Collaborative Applied Research

Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) invites researchers in Bhutan to apply for funds to support research and capacity-building activities. PEER will fund collaborative applied research projects within the environment, energy, and public health sectors. The funded projects are conducted in collaboration with researchers based in the United States. The program awards up to US$70 thousand per research team. The application deadline is 03 May 2021. Stockholm Environment Institute — Strategic Collaborative Fund Asia

The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) supports regional environmental and sustainable development events in Asia. SEI welcomes concept notes for regional strategic events in Asia that focus on advancing environmentally sustainable development with integration of gender and social equality and rights-based approaches. Themes under the Strategic Collaborative Fund include: Addressing air pollution and climate change, agrobiodiversity, disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation, and ecosystems. A total of SEK450 thousand will be awarded per grant. Projects should be based in South or Southeast Asia or address issues relevant to Asia. United Nations — Human Rights to Water and Sanitation

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation invites submissions to the 4th Human Rights Youth Challenge. Youth aged between 16 -24 are asked to produce a video (2-5 minutes) on climate change and human rights to water and sanitation. Videos can be submitted in any language with subtitles in English, French, or Spanish. The winner will be invited to join the UN Special Rapporteur to speak at a side-event to the Human Rights Council in September 2021. The submission period ends on 31 May 2021. Link to more details

U.S. Embassy Luanda — Community Projects in Malawi

The U.S. Embassy in Malawi provides funding to support local requests for small community-based development projects. The project must be submitted by an organized group who have already successfully implemented projects in the community. All citizens of Malawi representing a group or organization may request funding for a community activity. The requested amount for implementing activities cannot exceed US$8 thousand. Local involvement of the organization must be at least 10% in cash or in-kind of the total project costs. The closing date for applications is 31 May 2021. Know more

Canadian International Development Research Center — Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture

The Canadian International Development Research Center (IDRC) and the Swedish International Development Agency seek organizations from low and lower-middle income countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to host an African-based research network on responsible artificial intelligence innovations in agriculture and food systems. Applicants must have a proven track record in the design, development, and scaling of artificial intelligence innovations in agriculture and food systems. IDRC will provide funding of up to C$1.2 million to design and implement an innovation research network of researchers and innovators applying responsible AI techniques. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Photo Contest 2021

The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) invites current and former grantees to enter the 2021 Digital Photo Contest. CEPF is looking for images that show how their support enables people to protect hotspot species and critical ecosystems, and participate in sustainable livelihoods. The winning images will be featured on the homepage of CEPF’s website and other media within the CEPF network. Deadline for submitting entries is 03 May 2021. Link

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Asian Elephant Conservation Fund 2021

The Asian Elephant Conservation Fund invites project proposals for the conservation of the Asian elephant (Elephas maximus). Grants are for activities in elephant conservation, protection of habitat, prevention of poaching, and other activities in elephant conservation. Grants range from US$50 thousand to US$500 thousand for projects at priority sites within the range of the Asian elephant, but proposals outside of range are welcome when shows a clear relevance to the Asian elephant conservation. Eligibility for funding extends to qualified individuals; multi-national secretariats; state and local government agencies; nonprofit, non-governmental organizations; for-profit organizations; public and private institutions of higher education, and foreign entities. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Great Ape Conservation Fund 2021

The Great Ape Conservation Fund (Asia) is open to project proposals for the conservation of orangutans and gibbons throughout their ranges in Asia. Grants are for applied research, training, conservation management, community outreach, law enforcement, decreased human-wildlife conflicts, and other activities in conservation. About 15-20 grants will be awarded, ranging from US$50 thousand to a maximum of US$500 thousand. Eligibility for grants extends worldwide to qualified and relevant government agencies, other organizations, multi-national secretariats, and individuals. The application deadline is 07 May 2021.
