Grants are awarded to help entrepreneurs explore new markets and research their technology’s impact on the environment and poverty reduction. The programme’s emphasis is on cleantech products, systems, processes, and services in the following focus areas: climate change adaptation/mitigation; ecosystem services; renewable energy; water and sanitation; and urban development. Eligibility extends to companies or organisations based in Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The German Embassy in Jakarta seeks small scale projects and sustainable project ideas related to sectors of social welfare, agriculture, health, education or environment. The German Embassy financially supports projects of non-governmental and public benefit organisations. The Indigenous Biocultural Exchange Fund provides up to US$5 thousand to indigenous individuals to attend global biocultural exchanges or meetings which impact the applicant’s home territory or region. The French Institute for Development Research (IRD) calls for projects for the creation of international mixed laboratories (LMI) with the aim to strengthen the international influence of higher education and research centers in developing countries. European Commission — Improved Regional Fisheries Governance in West Africa
The European Commission calls for projects that increase the sustainability of the use of marine resources in West Africa by enhancing scientific knowledge, and supporting the development and implementation of effective management/conservation measures. The Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships enable successful applicants to benefit from the expertise provided by universities in low and middle-income countries around the Commonwealth. The program currently offers 13 masters-level scholarships at ACU member universities in 9 countries. Applicants are citizens of Commonwealth countries other than the host country. The National Geographic Society seeks proposals from around the world that will advance innovative conservation technologies to explore, visualize, and protect the planet. Priority will be given to projects that use multi-sensor monitoring systems, advance surveillance/alarm systems for protected areas, or develop new tools and capabilities needed to generate data. American Academy for the Advancement of Science — Global Innovation through Science and Technology 2018
The program Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) invites scientists, entrepreneurs, researchers, and innovators in 136 emerging countries to compete in the GIST Tech-I Competition 2018. The competition is open to everyone between the ages of 18 to 40 in any sector who has either an idea or a startup in the form of an invention, a product, a service, an app, any combination of these, or something entirely unique. Each participant in the competition submits an executive summary and a promotional video. The top 10 semi-finalists will advance to the Tech-I finals during the 2018 Global Entrepreneurship Congress in Istanbul, Turkey to showcase their ventures and receive intensive training. The US-Russia Social Expertise Exchange announces the launch of its recent project competition. Project ideas in the field of “Hands-on Learning in the Areas of Flora and Fauna” are welcome. This includes preservation of ecosystems and waterways, wildlife protection, and tech-based ecological stewardship. Teams composed of at least one US and one Russian organization or higher education institution are invited to propose innovative bilateral initiatives that benefit the people of both countries. The United Nations University offers postdoctoral fellowships to young scholars and policymakers, especially from the developing world. One fellowships program is with the UNU’s Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS); the other is with the UNU’s Center for Policy Research (UNU-CPR).
