The U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations interested in protecting the freedoms of expression and association of environmental defenders in Africa. Proposed projects should seek to elevate local community and grassroots-based activists and improve their capacity to strategically and effectively use advocacy and litigation tools to achieve changes in policy and practices. Projects should seek to target up to three countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, with at least one focus country being Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Tanzania, or Nigeria. Total funding is up to US$1 million. The DRL welcomes applications from US-based and foreign-based non-profit organizations, institutions of higher education; and for-profit organizations. University of California — Animal Law and Policy
The UCLA Animal Law and Policy Program advances animal protection through reliable, impactful research, effective law and policy reform, and training in practical legal tools. The program funds new empirical research in a wide variety of fields (from behavioral economics to law to moral psychology). UCLA anticipates funding approximately five to seven individual projects with a suggested total budget in the range of US$1,000 to US$4,500. Scholars and researchers affiliated with an accredited academic institution of higher learning in the United States may apply. However, UCLA accepts applications from and relating to other countries, as long as the principal investigator is based at a US university. CRDF Global awards grants to selected applicants from Eastern Europe to support training on securing biological supply chains through updated best practices. U.S. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs — Youth Ambassadors Program 2022
The U.S. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs seeks applications from U.S. public and private non-profit organizations to deliver the Youth Ambassadors Program 2022. The Youth Ambassadors program supports youth empowerment and development by equipping exchange participants from foreign countries with the knowledge and skills to become active and responsible members of their communities. The program includes a three-week exchange for high school youth (ages 15- 18) focused on social inclusion, entrepreneurship, countering disinformation, and environmental protection. Participants engage in a variety of activities such as workshops, training activities and community site visits. The UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism offers ten US$10 thousand postgraduate Food and Farming Journalism Fellowships. The fellowship is aimed at early and mid-career journalists who cover print and audio stories under the rubric of food systems: agricultural policy, food science, rural and urban farming, agriculture and the environment, food and climate change, etc. Preference is given to U.S. focused stories, but UC Berkeley will also consider international stories with a strong U.S. angle or connection. The Eppley Foundation for Research funds projects in medicine, life sciences, and the physical sciences. Areas of interest include innovative medical investigations and applications; endangered animals and ecosystems; and climate change. Applicants for grants must be associated with recognized nonprofit educational or research institutions in the US. 100,000 Strong in the Americas — U.S.-Brazil Innovation Fund Grant
The US-Brazil Innovation Fund Competition is designed to create and foster partnerships between higher education (HEIs) in Brazil and the United States that provide new student exchange and training programs in the academic themes of Environment & Climate Solutions, Food & Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and others.
