The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) invite researchers to submit 5-year projects for scientific cooperation through their programs, BIOTA and Dimensions of Biodiversity. Research projects must integrate the three dimensions of biodiversity: genetic, phylogenetic, and functional. Researchers associated with public or private higher education or research institutions in the State of São Paulo submit their proposals to FAPESP. U.S. researchers submit to NSF. With support by the Newton Fund, Innovate UK invites businesses to work with Brazilian partners on innovative urban development solutions in Brazil. Subject areas include management of urban water and sanitation, renewable energy, addressing natural disasters, and others. Governors’ Climate and Forests Fund — Requests for Proposals
The Governors’ Climate and Forests Fund currently requests proposals in two thematic areas: (i) enhanced landscape governance and capacity — with application deadline on 15 December 2016; and (ii) jurisdictional partnerships for forests, climate and agriculture — with application deadline on 31 January 2017. Eligibility for funding extends to accredited organizations in the GCFF member states and provinces of Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, and Peru. Link
Earth Journalism Network — Biodiversity Media Grant
The Internews Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers the Biodiversity Media Grant to support journalism networks and media organizations throughout the world in increasing the capacity of media to cover critical issues of conservation and biodiversity. EJN is especially interested in projects that focus on conservation in high-biodiversity regions of the world such as the Amazon, Central Africa, and Southeast Asia. Preference will be given to applications from or affiliated with professional journalists, media organizations, journalism schools, and the like. EJN will also consider applications by NGOs or environmental groups looking to build the capacity of journalists to cover conservation issues. The average grant will be about US$10 thousand. Monsanto Fund — Grants to Strengthen Farming Communities 2017
The Monsanto Fund makes grants to strengthen agricultural communities in several countries around the world. Grants of US$25 thousand and more are available to tax-exempt charitable organizations for activities and projects that address farmers’ education and training; food security; community water and sanitation; and other local needs. Monsanto’s international grants are administered at the country level. The Fund presents a list of eligible countries. Monsanto accepts international applications during two periods each year. UK Met Office — Collaboration with Brazil in Climate Science
The Climate Science for Service Partnership Brazil (CSSP Brazil) announces grants for UK researchers on subjects of climate change and disaster risk in Brazil. The focal areas are models of vegetation dynamics; the use of in situ forest observations and measurements to evaluate models; the use of regional scale observations and measurements to evaluate models; and detection and attribution of impacts of climate change in Brazil. Royal Bank of Canada — Blue Water Project 2017
The RBC’s Blue Water Project makes grants for watershed protection and safe drinking water in two programs. (i) The Community Action Grants are up to $10 thousand for local and community organizations in Canada, USA, and the Caribbean. (ii) Leadership Grants ranging from $10 thousand to $100 thousand are available in North America and other countries where RBC does business (including China, Hong Kong, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Chile, and Uruguay). Organic Farming Research Foundation — Research Grants Program
OFRF offers funding for research on organic farming and food systems and the dissemination of these research results to organic farmers and agricultural and research communities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Priorities are research on small grain production; soil health; social sciences related to adoption of organic systems; and organic animal production. OFRF particularly encourages farmers, ranchers, graduate students, early-career researchers, veterans, and extension personnel to consider applying for funding. Belgium’s University Commission for Development — Scholarships and Training Grants 2017-2018
The French-language universities of Belgium award 150 scholarships and about 70 training grants each year in the ARES program to applicants from developing countries. Subjects include environmental management and several others. Eligibility requirements are defined by age, previous education, and nationality. The eligible countries are Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Dem Rep Congo, Ecuador, Ethiopia (only for courses in English), Haiti, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, and Vietnam. Principle 10 — Grants to Promote Environmental Justice in Latin America
Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development seeks to ensure that every person has access to information, can participate in the decision-making process, and has access to justice in environmental matters. The Small Sub-Grants Fund offers up to US$2 thousand to registered nonprofit NGOs in Latin America and the Caribbean for actions that address environmental injustice and related violations of human rights.
