Norway’s International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI) supports efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries. Civil society organizations are invited to submit proposals for projects that reverse and reduce the loss of tropical forests. Priority geographic focus for funding are Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Guyana, DR Congo, Gabon, the Republic of Congo, Liberia, Ethiopia and Indonesia. However, strategic projects focusing on other important tropical forest countries will also be considered. Projects should cover a five-year period. European Commission — Partnerships for Sustainable Cities
The European Commission invites concept notes for projects that address urban challenges such as water security, pollution, and climate change, among others. The call is divided into five geographical areas: Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Southern and Eastern Europe, and extremely fragile countries. Fondation SUEZ — Biodiversity and Nature-based Solutions
Fondation SUEZ accepts applications for the Acting for Natural Assets program in search for “Biodiversity and nature-based solutions.” Applicants must demonstrate how their project addresses the issue of conserving biodiversity or restoring ecosystem service. The project is situated in France or the French overseas territories. SUEZ will donate a total amount of €100 thousand that will be divided up between three projects according to their needs. Missouri Botanical Garden — Fellowships for Visiting Researchers 2020
The Center for Conservation and Sustainable Development at the Missouri Botanical Garden offers short-term fellowships for professionals in conservation biology, ecology, botany, and related fields. The fellowships include small grants for travel and support costs for professional visits at the Missouri Botanical Garden lasting 4-12 weeks, varying with each fellowship program. New Zealand Aid Program — Development Scholarships 2020
New Zealand’s government provides a variety of opportunities for training and university study through the New Zealand Aid Program, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The program has four scholarship schemes, reaching a total of over 90 countries. The priorities for support often include agriculture, renewable energy, fisheries, disaster risk management, and other areas related to natural resources and environment. The eligibility requirements for scholarships are specific to each country/regional program. The application deadline for submissions is 28 February 2020 for most developing countries in Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean; and 27 March 2020 for Commonwealth countries. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation in the Tropical Andes (Capacity-Building Program)
The CEPF invites applications for small grants (maximum budget: US$49,950) in support of biodiversity conservation in the Tropical Andes. Civil society organizations are requested to submit Letters of Inquiry (LOI) to implement a capacity-building program for CEPF grantees and key stakeholder groups located in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. U.S. Department of Agriculture — Borlaug Fellowships in Agricultural Science and Technology
The Borlaug Fellowship Program supports short-term research projects to improve agricultural productivity, economic development, and food security in over developing countries. The program offers training and collaborative opportunities for agricultural research, international agricultural economics, leadership, and policy. The program lists the eligible countries, and the research priorities for each of them. Fellows work one-on-one with a U.S. mentor who will coordinate the training program. After completion of the 6 months fellowship, the mentor will visit the fellow’s home institution to continue collaboration. USDA will select U.S. host institutions and mentors for each fellow. U.S. Agency for International Development — Energy Resilience in Jamaica
The US Agency for International Development (USAID) supports actions and activities that will strengthen the ability of Jamaica’s energy sector. USAID requests solutions that advance the development of a resilient alternative energy market. Concept notes should propose activities valued at no less than US$2 million. North American Banding Council — Training for Bird Banders in Latin America
The North American Banding Council (NABC) and Association of Field Ornithologists (AFO) invite applications for small grants that support the development and certification of Latin American and Caribbean bird banders. Grants can be made to groups organizing NABC-based certification sessions and/or NABC-based training sessions that culminate in a certification opportunity. European Commission — Defense of Environmental Rights in Peru
The European Commission aims to strengthen environmental protection and mitigation of climate change by protecting environmental human rights and their defenders. This call focuses on (1) Promoting the transition to a low carbon economy in the Peruvian Amazon; and (2) Improving compliance with Environmental Human Rights (DHA) for better environmental governance. Projects with focus on low-carbon transition can apply for funding of between €500 thousand and €805 thousand. Projects with focus on environmental human rights can apply for funding up to €382 thousand.
