The U.S. Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act sponsors an annual competitive grants program to support the conservation of neotropical migratory birds and their habitats in the USA, Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean. At least 75 percent of funding supports projects outside the USA. Grant requests have to be matched by partner contributions at no less than a 3-to-1 ratio. Eligibility to compete for funding is unrestricted. Applications should be submitted in English, but the program will accept accompanying versions of the application in Spanish and Portuguese. U.S. National Fish and Wildlife Foundation — Conservation of Sea Turtles 2025
The U.S. National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) requests proposals that seek to improve the recovery and conservation of sea turtle populations. The majority of projects will take place in the Western Hemisphere: leatherbacks and loggerheads in the Northwest Atlantic, and leatherbacks and hawksbills in the Eastern Pacific. In 2025, the NFWF Sea Turtles Program will also award support to permitted U.S. organizations in providing sea turtle stranding response and/or rehabilitation in the United States and U.S. Territories. The RFP will award up to US$1.5 million, however, the majority of awards will fall in the range of US$50 thousand to US$300 thousand. A minimum of a 1:1 match of cash and/or in-kind services is required. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, government agencies, Indian tribes, educational institutions, businesses, and individuals. The deadline for pre-proposals is 10 September 2024. Commonwealth Secretariat — Youth Essay Award
The Commonwealth Secretariat launches the “Think Trade, Think Green: Commonwealth Innovative Youth Essay Award Competition.” This competition invites young researchers and students aged 18-29 to explore the relationship between trade and climate change and propose how trade policy can be part of the solution to the climate crisis. The first prize is £1,000, the second and third prizes are £500 each. Applicants must be Commonwealth nationals to participate in this competition. The submission deadline is 21 August 2024. Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean — Rural World in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean seeks research proposals to fund up to nine research projects that contribute to understanding the main problems faced by rural societies and productive means in the economies of Latin America and the Caribbean. Three projects will be selected from those related to poverty and inequality, three from risk and climate change and sustainable development, while the remaining three will be selected from those related to rurality. Inter-American Foundation — Research Fellowship Program
The Inter-American Foundation (IAF) welcomes applicants for its new Research Fellowship Program to advance rigorous field-based research on actionable questions about community-led development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Each fellowship includes a stipend of US$20 thousand to support an individual researcher working for twelve months. Inter-American Development Bank — Regional Public Goods
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) calls for proposals on regional public goods that have the potential to generate significant shared benefits. Proposals that address cross-cutting issues, such as climate change and environmental sustainability (among other themes), are particularly welcomed. Projects should be tri-national, or exceptionally bi-national. The size of the grant typically averages US$500 thousand per project for a maximum of 3 years. Counterpart resources are required. The Western Union Foundation Fellowship is for young entrepreneurs and community leaders who are from highly marginalized, refugee, and forcibly displaced communities around the globe. The 16-week-long program is designed to equip entrepreneurs with the skills and experience to transform their communities. US$25 thousand in seed funding will be distributed among the Fellows. Thomson Reuters Foundation — Communicating Just Transition Issues
The Thomson Reuters Foundation offers a free communication course for organizations in India, Bangladesh, and Brazil working in communication and journalism. The online course will consist of a series of training in which participants will receive training in parallel with climate journalists. Those who make the shortlist will have an opportunity to pitch their story ideas to the lead trainers for a chance to receive a £300 story grant. Manomet — Conservation of Neotropical Shorebirds
The Manomet small grants program seeks to promote the conservation of shorebird species and populations breeding in Latin America and the Caribbean and build the capacity of early-career conservationists and researchers in the Neotropics. Grants of US$3,000 are available. Awards are only available to projects carried out by nationals and/or residents of countries and territories in Central and South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
