The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) supports female scientists in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) with doctoral fellowships in the natural sciences. The early-career fellowships are for the pursuit of a doctoral degree at a host institution in a developing country that is not the applicant’s home country. The Fellowship is for two years and provides up to US$50 thousand. Applicants should be qualified young women science graduates (generally below 40 years of age), who have an M.Sc. degree or outstanding B.Sc. in the natural sciences. WWF Nepal — Memorial Scholarships
WWF Nepal’s Memorial Scholarships assist students who wish to pursue careers in conservation. WWF Nepal offers several scholarships to conservationists and/or promising students to pursue a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in the field of environment and biodiversity conservation in Nepal. The scholarship recipient will receive an equivalent of approx. US$4 thousand over 4 years to cover tuition, field equipment and field tour fees, living expenses, books and supplies, and thesis research costs. Audi Environmental Foundation — One Young World Scholarship
The One Young World Summit brings together young talents (ages 18-30) from many nationalities to share solutions addressing the world’s pressing issues. One Young World offers scholarships to ensure that the most qualified young leaders participate in the Summit, regardless of their ability to pay. Goethe-Institut Bangkok — Science Film Festival
The Goethe-Institut Bangkok invites submissions to its annual Science Film Festival. The Film Festival is open to all formats as well as all genres of films on science, technology, and the environment. The festival makes six awards with a cash prize of €1,000 each. British Council — Scholarships for Women in STEM
The British Council launches a scholarship program in partnership with UK universities to benefit women from the Americas, South Asia, South East Asia, Egypt, Turkey, and Ukraine. The scholarship provides women with a background in STEM with financial support to inspire future generations of women to pursue careers in STEM. African Impact Initiative — Business Challenge
The African Impact Challenge supports early-stage African entrepreneurs. In 2024, the challenge focuses on Botswana. Top-performing teams will receive up to US$25 thousand in either grant funding or a simple agreement for future equity investment. Projects and business ideas can focus on any sector as long as they are impact-focused entrepreneurship as a means of livelihood. Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs — Women-led Clean Energy Enterprises
Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) launches the Improving Outcomes for Women-led Clean Energy Enterprises through Applied Research. The initiative will fund actionable research that aims to build the evidence base on these barriers and potential solutions. ANDE aims to support collaborative research projects led by practitioners and researchers based in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa. ygap — Poverty Solutions for South Africa
The ygap accelerator provides support to South African leaders with solutions to poverty. Entrepreneurs and startups with project ideas and solutions for their local community are invited to apply for the training program. The program offers a three-day accelerator followed by twelve months of tailored support including business skills development, strategy insights, mentor support, and more. Participants will gain access to professionals (designers, lawyers, coaches, etc.) and have the opportunity to apply for small grants. Eligibility extends to social entrepreneurs operating in South Africa, who are dedicated to creating a positive change in the lives of people living in poverty. The Ocean Awards recognize individuals, community groups, organizations, and businesses that have made significant contributions to the health of the marine environment, to the sustainable management of marine resources, or to public engagement with the oceans and seas. The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) gives the Wangari Maathai Award to one extraordinary individual for having improved their forests and the lives of people who depend on them. Eligible projects include conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of forests and raising awareness in support of local communities, rural livelihoods, and the environment.
