UNESCO — Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation

The UNESCO Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation recognizes outstanding contributions by individuals, groups of individuals, institutes, or organizations in the management or preservation of the environment. This refers to contributions in environmental and natural resources research; environmental education and training; environmental awareness; and activities to establish and manage protected areas such as biosphere reserves and natural World Heritage sites. Nominations for the Prize can be made by UNESCO member states and by international organizations, or by NGOs which have consultative status with UNESCO. The financial prize is US$100 thousand, donated by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said of Oman. The deadline for nominations (English, French) is 15 July 2023. Prize for Environmental Preservation

Global Landscapes Forum — Restoration Stewards

The Restoration Stewards program supports the work of young restoration practitioners and their teams through funding, mentorship, and training to deepen the impact of youth-led restoration projects. Teams receive a grant of €5 thousand to develop their restoration project and raise awareness among their local communities about the importance of ecosystem restoration and healthy landscapes. U.S. Mission to Brazil — Small Grants

The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil announce an open competition for organizations interested in submitting proposals to organize a comprehensive small grants program. The Embassy supports initiatives that build capacity for groups protecting the environment and working with communities in areas critical to biodiversity and environmental protection. Individuals can apply for grants of up to US$5 thousand, organizations may request up to US$25 thousand. Eligibility extends to individuals, civil society organizations, academic institutions, government institutions, and international organizations. The closing date for applications is 31 July 2023. International Union of Forest Research Organizations — Short Scientific Visits

The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) offers a limited number of grants of up to €5 thousand for short scientific visits to early-career scientists who reside in an economically disadvantaged country to visit a forest research organization overseas. The duration of the scientific visit should be agreed between the applicant and host organization and last approximately three months. Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement — Nominations for Prize in 2024

The Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement grants US$250 thousand to recognize exceptional accomplishments in environmental science, energy, or medicine. The Tyler Prize can be awarded to living individuals or public or private institutions anywhere in the world. Several past prize winners have been distinguished in scientific and technical areas such as the global nitrogen cycle, global biodiversity assessments, wastewater treatment in developing countries, and others relevant to the link between environment and development. Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards — Wildlife Photography Competition

The competition celebrates the hilarity of our natural world and highlights what we need to do to protect it through funny animal pictures. Photography 4 Humanity — Climate Justice Photography

The 2023 Photography 4 Humanity Global Prize Competition is open for submissions. The competition seeks images that show people impacted by the escalating climate crisis. This includes climate refugees, images of climate champions advocating for change, and those helping to mitigate and reverse climate change. The Global Prize Recipient will receive US$5,000. Hawk Conservancy Trust — Marion Paviour Award

The Hawk Conservancy Trust supports early-career researchers working in projects focused on conservation and/or research of birds of prey. The maximum award amount is £1,000. Preference will be given to those applying for support for fieldwork, conference fees to present work, or travel costs (for fieldwork or conference attendance). Applications close on 31 August 2023. Climate and Clean Air Coalition — Reduce short-lived Climate Pollutants

The Climate and Clean Air Coalition launches a call for opportunities to advance national policy and planning to reduce short-lived climate pollutants in 23 countries. The CCAC currently accepts proposals for projects that fulfill specific services requested by partner countries. The estimated funding amount varies by service and country. King Baudouin Foundation — Fonds Ernest Solvay

The Ernest Solvay Fund provides grants to individuals and organizations implementing a non-commercial project which is intended to promote scientific and technological training and development, both in Belgium and abroad. Projects may focus on both education and entrepreneurship in areas such as chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics and earth sciences. Financial support of up to €10 thousand will be provided.
