Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research — Visiting Scholar

The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) provides visiting scholarships to mid- to late-career stage scientists and academics involved in Antarctic research. Scholars can undertake short-term visits (up to 4 weeks) to an institute in another SCAR member country, to provide training and mentoring. The Visiting Scholar Scheme provides individual awards of up to US$5 thousand. The closing date for applications is 31 August 2025. SCAR Visiting Scholar

United Nations University — PhD Internships in Economics

UNU-WIDER (World Institute for Development Economics Research) invites applications for its PhD research internship program in Helsinki, Finland. Preference is for applicants who live or work in developing countries, and who are in the later stages of their PhD. Program themes in WIDER include the economics of energy, climate change, food security, and others. UNU-WIDER provides a travel grant and a monthly stipend of €1,850 during the period of the fellowship. Deadlines for submission of applications are 31 March and 30 September each year. Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development — Co-Operative Research Program

The Co-operative Research Program (CRP) provides funding for international events (such as conferences, workshops, congresses, and symposia) and research fellowship grants. Applications are invited from research scientists working in agriculture, forestry, or fisheries who would like to conduct research projects abroad or visit international events. ETH Zurich — Doctoral Mentorship Program

ETH for Development (ETH4D) provides grants for mentoring doctoral candidates. The mentorship entails remote support of doctoral candidates in low- and lower-middle-income countries as well as a research stay of 1-3 months at ETH Zurich. The grant covers expenses up to a maximum of CHF 15 thousand. Eligibility extends to doctoral candidates who are registered at a university or research institute in any low- or middle-income country. Royal Geographical Society — Gilchrist Fieldwork Award

The Royal Geographical Society invites applications for the Gilchrist Fieldwork Award. The aim of the award is to support challenging overseas fieldwork projects carried out by a team of university academics and researchers. The team should comprise up to 10 members, the majority of whom should be British. Previous winning themes include climate change, ecosystem function, climate science, and ocean circulation. Ornithological Society of the Middle East — Trevor Poyser Species Conservation Fund

The Ornithological Society of the Middle East (OSME) makes grants to support bird research in the Middle East, Caucasus, and Central Asia. The Trevor Poyser Species Conservation Fund supports research projects that lead to clear conservation benefits for a globally threatened species that occurs within the OSME region. Heritage Management Organization — Small Grants for African Heritage Projects

The Heritage Management Organization (HERITΛGE) funds projects that focus on the protection of and/or promotion of local heritage for socio-economic development in Africa. Small grants of up to US$50 thousand are made to organizations, groups, and individuals. Projects should have a long-lasting impact and benefit local people. Potential examples are protecting heritage sites from desertification by creating green belts, especially where such green areas can increase biodiversity, bring benefits to local agriculture, and encourage tourism. United Nations — Climate Ambition Accelerator

The United Nations Global Compact invites companies participating in the UN Global Compact to join the 2025 Climate Ambition Accelerator. This six-month programme aims to (1) equip businesses with the knowledge and skills to set science-based emissions reduction targets aligned with the 1.5°C pathway and (2) support their journey towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Participants will benefit from global best practices, peer-to-peer learning, practical activities, capacity-building sessions, and on-demand training. United Nations Environment Program — Champions of the Earth 2025

The Champions of the Earth is the UN’s highest award to honor people and organizations worldwide for leadership and action on sustainable development, climate change, and a life of dignity. This year, UNEP seeks nominations of individuals, organizations, and governments working on sustainable solutions to eliminate plastic pollution. Persons may nominate themselves, their own organizations, or a third party whom they believe should receive recognition. Nominations must be supported by three endorsers. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations — Global Bioenergy Youth Award

The GBEP Youth Award recognizes research conducted by students in the field of bioenergy. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to present their research and receive their award certificate during the GBEP Bioenergy Week. Applicants should be within the age limit of 30 years old for bachelor and Master students, and 35 years old for Ph.D. students. This year, the 2025 Award is focused exclusively on Africa.
