The EC’s Directorate for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection calls for projects which address temporary shortcomings of response capacities in extraordinary disasters. The objective is to establish “buffer capacities” to add stand-by availability of rapid response capacities. Included are responses to disasters caused by flooding and forest fires. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Grants to Combat Wildlife Trafficking
The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) welcomes project proposals to combat wildlife trafficking. Priorities include strengthening CITES implementation in key regions and countries; fighting corruption and poor governance regarding wildlife protection; increasing cooperation among African and Asian countries involved in transnational wildlife crime; working for behavioral change in support of wildlife protection; and conservation of species endangered by illegal trade. Projects are up to US$100 thousand for one or two years, although higher amounts will be considered. Eligibility for funding extends worldwide to individuals, non-profit and for-profit organizations, institutions of higher education, and multi-national secretariats. Governors’ Climate and Forests Fund — Requests for Proposals
The Governors’ Climate and Forests Fund currently requests proposals in two thematic areas: (i) enhanced landscape governance and capacity — with application deadline on 15 December 2016; and (ii) jurisdictional partnerships for forests, climate and agriculture — with application deadline on 31 January 2017. Eligibility for funding extends to accredited organizations in the GCFF member states and provinces of Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, and Peru. Link
World Bank — Big Data Innovation Challenge
The World Bank is interested in how “big data” can be used to address development questions, including how climate change affects food security and forestry and watersheds. Solutions may include but are not limited to analytical methodologies, APIs, algorithms, software applications, tools, and new data set generation. Technologies may include artificial intelligence, crowd-sourcing applications, data science, dynamic visualizations, machine learning, and predictive analytics. The Challenge will award US$10 thousand to the winner in each of the following two categories: (i) food security or nutrition, and (ii) forestry or watersheds. Submissions are invited from individuals, students, entrepreneurs, start-ups, university labs, private companies, nonprofits, and public sector agencies legally established in member countries of the World Bank Group. European Commission — Capacıty Building in the Fıeld of Clımate Change in Turkey
The EC and the Government of Turkey will co-fund a program to increase public understanding and enhance capacity of Turkish organizations on actions to mitigation and adapt to climate change. One lot of grants is for NGOs in partnerships with local governments and municipalities (maximum grant is €50 thousand, varying with cost shares), while the other lot is for metropolitan municipalities (maximum grant is €200 thousand, varying with cost shares). U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Program for Mexico 2016
In “Wildlife Without Borders, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) partners with Mexico’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) to invite projects that build Mexico’s capacity for biodiversity conservation. Grants should focus on projects that improve the capacities of Mexican government agencies and local communities to protect wildlife from illegal trafficking and over-exploitation. Applications are invited from government agencies, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, private-sector entities, and individuals. The maximum grant is US$500 thousand for two years. Netherlands Organisation for International Cooperation in Higher Education (NUFFIC) — Tailor-Made Training for Organizations
The Netherlands Fellowship Programs (NFP) include Tailor-made Training to build the capacity of an organization’s staff members. The programme is open to organisations in education, research, government, and civil society. Tailor-Made Training accepts proposals of organisations in NFP partner countries submitted jointly with a Dutch training provider. Application forms are available via the Netherlands embassies. Priorities include proposals focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa, and proposals focusing on food security. Funding is up to €75 thousand, with a co-funding requirement of at least 20%. U.S. Department of State — Morocco Green Growth Climate Challenge
The U.S. Department of State will make one grant for approximately US$400 thousand to assist Morocco with a competition to help build capacity to mitigate the impacts of climate change through the use of clean energy and energy-efficient technologies. The challenge will feature small grants for workshops on energy technologies, public policy, and business development. Applications to manage the challenge are invited from non-profit NGOs; private, public, and state institutions of higher education; and for-profit organizations and businesses in the U.S. and elsewhere (e.g., Morocco). LEDS Global Partnership — Fellowships on Low-Emission Development Strategies
The LEDS Global Partnership offers fellowships for individuals and teams of practitioners to be embedded with leading institutions to learn practical lessons that they can apply to low-emission development strategies and/or nationally determined contributions in their home countries. Fellowships will be awarded to individuals or groups of national or sub-national government officials who play a significant role within LEDS development or implementation. This pilot phase of the program will fund one fellow from each of Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean. The application deadline has been extended to 15 July 2016. Link

The EC will make grants to strengthen organizational and operational capacity for fisheries and aquaculture in Algeria.
