Ocean Innovation Challenge — Area-Based Management and the Blue Economy

The Ocean Innovation Challenge (OIC) seeks innovative solutions for ecosystem-based management of marine ecosystems. Solutions must indicate effective strategies for the management of Marine Protected Areas (MPA) while enabling coastal communities and nations to realize enhanced social and economic benefits from the sustainable utilization of their ocean and coastal resources. Governmental agencies, NGOs, private sector (including start-ups), academia, UN, and intergovernmental organizations are eligible to apply. SADC Secretariat — Water Fund

The SADC Regional Fund for Water Infrastructure and Basic Sanitation (SADC Water Fund) is the key financing facility for the development and integration of the water sector in the Southern African region. The Fund finances infrastructure projects to improve the supply for drinking water and water for agricultural use for the poor. The Fund will finance major service contracts only. Therefore, only projects requiring a grant of a minimum of €2 million and a maximum of €4 million will be considered for support. Eligibility extends to governments of SADC Member States and their agencies (water utilities, local government, municipalities, etc.) and regional institutions promoted by governments. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Wetlands and Migratory Birds in Mexico

The Mexico Standard Program promotes the protection and restoration of wetland ecosystems and other habitats for wetlands-associated migratory birds and other fish and wildlife. Grants under this call generally range from US$50 thousand to US$700 thousand. Eligibility extends to individuals, corporations, government agencies, universities, and international organizations. Association of Zoos and Aquariums — Conservation Grants Fund 2022

The AZA’s Conservation Grants Fund makes grants for animal health; animal welfare; conservation education; field conservation and/or reintroduction; management and/or breeding; and research. The principal investigator in a grants application must be an AZA member. Many grants are awarded to collaborations among AZA-accredited institutions; government wildlife agencies; academia; and conservation NGOs. Melinda Gray Ardia Environmental Foundation — Grants for Environmental Education

The Melinda Gray Ardia Environmental Foundation seeks to contribute to the development, implementation, and/or field testing of environmental curricula. The objective is to empower and encourage students to become involved in solving environmental and social problems. Any organization is eligible to apply — including schools, non-profits, governmental agencies, and others. The Foundation has made grants in several developing countries. Grants are up to US$1,500. Initiative for Climate Action Transparency — Methodology of Climate Finance

The Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) seeks a grantee to develop a methodology that supports the tracking of climate finance at the national level, links climate action to climate finance, and enables the integration of such data in a country’s transparency framework. The grantee will also provide technical support to up to three developing countries in developing a national framework to assess the climate finance needed. Inter-American Development Bank — Urban Challenges in Latin America

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) launches the challenge Cities for All, which seeks to identify urban challenges in Latin American and Caribbean cities. The call focuses on vulnerability and resilience to climate change and natural disasters, among other themes. Three teams will be selected to receive technical assistance of up to $35 thousand, to work on the implementation of a prototype or pilot project. Cities from the IDB’s borrowing member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean are eligible to participate. Applications are open until 06 February 2022. Urban Challenges in Latin America

German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety — Funding for Low-Carbon Development

The NAMA Facility Ambition Initiative supports countries who plan to increase their emissions reduction plans and gear toward a carbon-neutral economy. The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) provides funding and invites project applications for a combination of technical assistance and climate finance, to enable partner countries to implement their enhanced NDCs. US Department of State — Coral Reef and Natural Resources

The Coral Reef and Natural Resources Initiative provides grant funding for management and protection of coral reefs and combat invasive species in the U.S. insular areas. Priority will be given to projects that help address a variety of threats to coral reef ecosystems, research into how sea level rise impacts coral reefs, and to combatting and eradicating aquatic and terrestrial plant, insect, and animal invasive species. The U.S. insular areas include American Samoa, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and the Republic of Palau. The maximum budget is US$300 thousand for 12 to 36 months. Swedish Energy Agency and partners — Climate Smart Cities Challenge

The Climate Smart Cities Challenge is an opportunity for cities to participate as implementation partners in a city-based open innovation competition for cutting-edge solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Interventions can be across multiple sectors or a combination, such as waste management, food production, energy systems, ecosystems, green space development, and others. The competition invites cities from all around the world to apply with their ideas for creating thriving communities. Selected cities will receive help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
