The Australian Aid: Friendship Grants program supports organisations from across Australia and provides funding for aid activities in the Indo-Pacific. Eligible Australian community organisations are encouraged to apply for funding of AUD30-60 thousand in three annual grant rounds. The grants will fund development activities that strengthen an overseas community’s capacity or socio-economic situation and improve the lives of poor and vulnerable people. United States Agency for International Development — Senegal Fisheries, Biodiversity & Livelihoods
USAID seeks applications for a Cooperative Agreement from qualified entities to implement the “USAID/Senegal Feed the Future Fisheries, Biodiversity & Livelihoods (FBL)” Activity. The purpose of the five-year Feed the Future Senegal Fisheries Biodiversity and Livelihoods Activity is to improve management of fisheries for ecological sustainability. U.S. Department of State — Study/Research Award 2019-2020
The Study/Research Awards are a component of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The program is designed for applicants interested in designing their own projects in various areas of study (possibly within the thematic areas of the Terra Viva Grant Directory). Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens. Program requirements vary by country, so the applicants should familiarize themselves with the program summary for the host country. Each candidate is required to be affiliated with a local institution of higher education, a research/training institute, a think tank, or a registered NGO. U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration — Saltonstall-Kennedy Grants for Fisheries 2019
The Saltonstall-Kennedy program funds projects that address the needs of fishing communities, and that build and maintain sustainable fisheries. The focus areas in 2019 are marine aquaculture; adapting to environmental changes and other long-term impacts in the marine ecosystem; fisheries promotion, development, and marketing. The program is open to applicants in the USA, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and Palau — with priority for applications from the fishing community, and that involve fishing community cooperation and participation. International Women’s Media Foundation — African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative
The IWMF created the African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative (AGLRI) to provide training and support for female in-country journalists from the Central African Republic, Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. The aim is to provide necessary funding to independent journalists to cover under-reported issues including issues of empowerment, democracy, food security, and conservation efforts. The Australian Government seeks applications for its Direct Aid Program (DAP) 2018/2019. DAP supports small-scale sustainable development projects and activities in the fields of agriculture; water and sanitation; environment/conservation; and others. The High Commission accepts project proposals from Benin, Cameroon, Gabon, Gambia, Niger and Nigeria. Funding of up to AUD60 thousand is available to community groups, NGOs, private sector entities, academic institutions, or other organisations engaged in development activities on a not-for-profit basis. UK Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council — Agri-Systems Research
BBSRC announces a call for collaborative proposals to address research challenges relating to the sustainable intensification of agricultural systems in developing countries. The aim of this call is to enhance livelihoods through research to improve the productivity, sustainability, resilience and health of crops and/or farmed animals (including aquaculture). Proposals must be led by a Principal Investigator (PI) in the UK, but are expected to be co-designed and delivered with “in-country” researchers. Arab Council for the Social Sciences — Research Grants 2019-2020
The Arab Council for the Social Sciences announces the fifth cycle of its research grants program on the theme of “Environmentalism, Impoverishment, and Social Justice Movements: Interdisciplinary Perspectives”. The research should focus primarily on Arab societies, with priority given to researchers residing in the Arab region. Grants of up to US$20 thousand will be available to individual researchers; research teams can apply for up to US$50 thousand. Grants are intended to support a maximum timeline of 18 months. International Fund for Agricultural Development — Climate-smart Aquaculture
IFAD seeks proposals for grants to implement a project on “Advancing Technologies and Capacity Building for Climate-smart Aquaculture”. The IFAD will support adaptive research, technology transfer and piloting climate smart aquaculture technologies worldwide. Capacity building in technologies for national aquaculture research will be supported in the targeted countries Eritrea, Ethiopia and Egypt. The IFAD grant amount under this call is up to US$1 million. The recipient of this grant can be an inter-governmental organization, a non-profit organization, an university or a private sector entity.
