U.S. Department of State — Young Pacific Leaders Conference 2020

The US Department of State, in partnership with Cultural Vistas, accepts applications from emerging leaders (ages 25-35) across the Pacific to attend the Young Pacific Leaders (YPL) Conference in Papua New Guinea (April 2020). The Conference will include informational sessions, skills workshops, cultural activities, and site visits to deepen participants’ capacity to address regional issues related to Education; Environment and Resource Management; Civic Leadership; and Economic and Social Development. All travel, lodging and meals will be provided to selected participants. After the YPL Conference, all YPL alumni will be eligible to compete for small grant funding to support projects in their countries. Applications are due by 03 February 2020. Find out more

U.S. National Academy of Sciences — Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research, Cycle 9

PEER invites scientists in developing countries to work with U.S. collaborators in research and capacity building on priority topics that include environmental contaminants, agricultural productivity and food security, biodiversity conservation, water security, low-carbon development, fisheries assessments, and others. The priorities are different for each PEER focus area (i.e., varying by regions and countries). Projects are anticipated to run for one to three years. Awards involving support for only one institution (single institution awards) range from US$40-80 thousand per year. Awards involving support for more than one institution (multiple institution awards) may receive up to US$100 thousand per year. Applicants must be based at academic institutions, non-profit organizations, or government-managed research laboratories, centers, or institutes in the eligible countries. Applicants need to have at least one research partner in the U.S. that has grant funding from the U.S. government. The deadline for pre-proposals is 10 February 2020. Click here

 

Famae — Food For Good Challenge

The company Famae seeks innovative and concrete solutions from field to fork to deliver fair, sustainable & healthy food worldwide to everyone. Solutions should be pragmatic, efficient, durable, and money-saving to make life easier for urban citizens while reducing their environmental footprint. Individuals, teams, businesses, government entities, universities and organizations are eligible to apply. The maximum award is €2 million which may be allocated to a single exceptional project to cover the production of a prototype. Applications will be accepted until 14 February 2020. Interreg Baltic Sea Region — Seed Money Call

Interreg Baltic Sea Region provides seed money to support the preparation of projects in line with the Action Plan of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR). The Programme area covers eight EU Member States (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, parts of Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden) and two partner countries (Norway and parts of Russia). Seed money applications can be submitted by national, regional or local authorities. The total budget of a seed money project is €50 thousand. World Bank Group — Supporting Women Micro-Entrepreneurs

The World Bank Group invites applications for the “Sustainable Development Goals and Her Competition.” SDGs & Her is an online competition for women micro-entrepreneurs to showcase how they are supporting the SDGs through their business operations. Winners will receive leadership training, mentoring and will be flown to Washington DC, for an event at the World Bank Group-IMF Spring Meetings (April 2020). British Council — Global Innovation Challenge

The British Council seeks creative digital ideas that has the potential to change the world and improve the lives of the world’s most disadvantaged people. Ideas have to focus on one of three Global Goals for Sustainable Development, including “Decent Work and Economic Growth” (which fits the category Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry). The winning pitch will get £20 thousand to invest in their idea and mentorship for a full year. The competition is open to anyone and everyone across the world. German Embassy — Small-Scale Project Funding for Bangladesh

Germany provides direct financial assistance to NGOs, local communities and religious institutions for the implementation of a small project for the benefit of disadvantaged groups of society in Bangladesh. Euromena Consulting — Awards for Sub-Saharan Africa Startups

Euromena Consulting invites applications for the 3rd Euromena Awards – Sub-Saharan Africa Edition. The awards are intended for companies or innovative projects with social, economic, environmental and/or societal impact. To be eligible, the startup must be based in a sub-saharan country. The three winners will receive 6 months of customized business consulting (coaching, mentorship, and advisory services), plus financial rewards – 1st place €5 thousand; 2nd place €3 thousand; 3rd place €2 thousand. International Food Policy Research Institute — Short Video Contest

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks short videos (1-2 minutes) for the “My Food our Future” video contest. The video should offer ideas and solutions to access healthy and affordable diets. Young filmmakers from all around the world have the chance to win a US$500 prepaid gift card. Chivas Venture — Funding for Social Entrepreneurs

Chivas Venture provides start-ups and social entrepreneurs with project funding. Past projects include projects in the thematic areas of plastic waste, agriculture, and other environmental or humanitarian themes. 20 Finalists will participate in a 3-day Accelerator Program in London and the winners share a total of US$1 million in funding.
