Explorers Club – Scott Pearlman Field Awards 2018

The Explorers Club is a multidisciplinary professional society dedicated to the advancement of field research, and to preserving the instinct to explore. The Scott Pearlman Field Awards are grants for artists, writers, filmmakers, photographers, and journalists in support of scientific expeditions sponsored by the Explorers Club. The winning candidate will receive a cash award of $10 thousand. Applicants do not have to be a member of The Explorers Club to qualify for a grant, and there are no nationality or age restrictions. African Union — Scholarship for African Women in Science

The Mwalimu Nyerere African Union Scholarship Scheme encourages the participation of young African female students at postgraduate level, for Masters and PhD programmes in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Candidates must be under 35 years for Masters or under 40 years for PhD studies and have proof of admission to undertake a full time Masters or PhD programme at a recognized university of an African Union Member State. The scholarship award covers travel, tuition fees and a stipend of US$500 per month. Closing date for applications is 30 April 2018. View the scholarship

European Union — Training in Crop Improvement for Food Security in Africa

The EU, through its Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme, provides funding to support training of graduate students at African universities. A total of 24 Masters and 12 Doctorates will be trained in the thematic areas of Plant breeding, Biotechnology, Seed science, Agronomy, and Pesticides and plant protection. The scholarship includes a subsistence allowance of €900 per month for PhD candidates and €600 for MSc candidates. Women and candidates with disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply. ETH Zurich — Exchange of Young Researchers

ETH Zurich, in Switzerland, supports the exchange of young researchers between Switzerland and China. Swiss senior researchers from universities or research institutes and from all scientific disciplines can apply to host young Chinese scholars or apply to send one of their PhD students to China to conduct research. Royal Institution Of Chartered Surveyors — Cities for our Future Challenge 2018

The Cities for our Future Challenge is a global competition run by the Royal Institution Of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in partnership with UNESCO and the ACU. Young professional, start-ups and students involved in surveying, urban design, architecture, or engineering are invited to submit innovative ideas for projects and policies that solve issues in the topics of Rapid Urbanisation, Climate Change, and Resource Scarcity. The winner will receive €50 thousand and mentoring to develop a prototype. Ideas have to be submitted by 31 May 2018. Participate!

International Conference on Diseases of Zoo and Wild Animals — Rudolf Ippen Young Scientist Award 2018

The Award honors a young scientist who published a promising scientific paper in the thematic areas of wildlife veterinary science, conservation medicine, or zoo animal medicine. The “Rudolf Ippen Young Scientist Award” will be awarded at the 2018 Joint AAZV/EAZWV/Leibniz-IZW Conference in Prague (Czech Republic) in October 2018. The award is endowed with €1 thousand. World Energy Council — Future Energy Leaders

The World Energy Council looks for bright young professionals from all around the world to join its Future Energy Leaders’ programme (FEL-100). Future Energy Leaders (FELS), form a community and have the chance to shape the global energy agenda. United Nations University — Climate Fellowship Programme

The UNFCCC–UNU Early Career Climate Fellowship Programme offers young people from developing countries the opportunity to start their career at the interface between international climate policy development and research. Fellowships may last from six months to two years. Climate Fellows will be able to work in their home countries or internationally, deploying the valuable experience and insights they have gained during the programme. Applicants must be enrolled in their final term or have recently graduated from an advanced university degree programme in environment, climate change, communications, international relations or a related field. Qualified women candidates and candidates from least developed countries are especially encouraged to apply. Applications are accepted two times a year. International Youth Foundation — Global Fellowship for Social Entrepreneurs

The Laureate Global Fellowship, sponsored by Laureate International Universities, recognizes 20 young leaders from around the world who have pioneered solutions to urgent social and environmental challenges in their communities and beyond. Laureate Global Fellows begin their fellowship experience at a week-long training retreat and gain access to opportunities for needs-based personal and organizational development. São Paulo School of Advanced Science — Workshop: Ocean Research and Governance

The São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Ocean Interdisciplinary Research and Governance (SPSAS Ocean) will hold a 2-week training and networking session in August 2018 on ocean science. The Advanced School will focus on three themes, and it will be led by speakers from several countries. The School will accept about 100 graduate students and early-career scientists from Brazil and other countries. The Advanced School will be conducted in English.
