Wellcome Trust — Early-Career Research Awards

The Wellcome Trust supports bold and creative discovery research that has the potential to improve human life, health and wellbeing. The Early-Career Awards provide funding for early-career researchers from any discipline who are ready to develop their research identity through innovative projects. Research can be in any discipline, including STEM, experimental medicine, or climate – as long as it has the potential to improve human life. The Trust covers the researcher’s salary and up to £400 thousand for research expenses. The applicant’s host organization has to be based in the UK, Republic of Ireland, a low- or middle-income country (apart from India and mainland China). Yale University — Yale Young African Scholars 2023

Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) offers an academic summer program for secondary school students from across Africa. The program offers online and in-person programs in four interdisciplinary sessions on Innovations in Science & Technology and Solving Global Challenges. Admitted participants will have access to pre-recorded videos before the start of the program and attend live sessions. There is no tuition cost to participate in the program. UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — Partnerships with Brazil

The BBSRC Partnering Awards aim to set up partnership links between UK and overseas laboratories, promote the exchange of scientists, particularly early career scientists, and to promote access to facilities. Funding of up to £50 thousand is available for a period of up to four years for partnerships with Brazilian bioscience laboratories. International partnerships focusing on the net zero carbon emissions target, through a sustainable, resilient and bio-diverse agri-food system are especially welcome. Funds can only be used for travel, subsistence and other activities, such as workshops or exchanges. The application deadline is 10 November 2022. BBSRC Research Grant Brazil

Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences — Amsterdam Talent Scholarship

The Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) aims to attract excellent students from around the world, therefore, it awards €4 thousand at the end of every academic year to successful non-EEA students who have been enrolled in one of the programs of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Eligible courses are Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery, Environmental Sciences, Natural sciences and others. ONE International — ONE Africa Award

The ONE Africa Award honors the exceptional work of individuals and organizations based in Africa to help Africa achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The amount of the award is US$100 thousand, which may be split into more than one prize. Eligibility for the award extends to civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, and other groups based in Africa that can demonstrate commitment and success in advocacy to promote the attainment of one or more of the SDGs. Johnson & Johnson — Scholars Award Program for Women in STEM2D

The Johnson & Johnson Scholars Award Program supports female STEM2D leaders (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Manufacturing and Design). The Scholar Award is paid to the university of the recipient in support of her studies and research. Applicants must be assistant female professors or have a global equivalent faculty position at an accredited academic university, institution or design school. Commonwealth Secretariat — Commonwealth Youth Awards 2023

The Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work recognize individuals ages 15 to 29 who lead innovative development projects in themes that include agriculture, small enterprise, skills training, climate change, environmental protection, sustainable livelihoods, and poverty reduction. The program selects regional winners from each of Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. Winners are awarded grants of up to a total of £5 thousand in total to advance their projects. Finduddannelse.dk — Sustainability Scholarship

Finduddannelse.dk is a Danish platform for lifelong learning. The platform offers a scholarship to a student for masters studies. The applicant must have been accepted to a masters program and aim to make the world more sustainable through their studies , for example, through clean energy, biology, sustainable agriculture, or any other relevant field. The scholarship offers up to €5000 to help cover tuition fees. Applicants from all around the world are welcome, however, candidates must be fluent in English or Danish. Alexander von Humboldt Foundation — Georg Forster Research Award

The Georg Forster Research Award supports the work of accomplished researchers who are expected to continue to develop research-based solutions to specific challenges facing transition and developing countries. Nominees must be nationals of a developing or transition country, excluding the People’s Republic of China and India. The award amount is €60 thousand. Additionally, award winners are invited to conduct a research project of their own choosing in Germany in close collaboration with a specialist colleague. To support the collaboration, the Foundation may grant additional funding of up to €25 thousand. Nominations for the Award must be submitted by an established academic employed by a university or research institution in Germany. The closing date for nominations is 31 October 2022. Find out more
