Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership — Cleantech Challenge

The Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership, funded by the European Commission, aims to connect high-quality tech hubs from both continents to explore opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships. The Cleantech Challenge seeks startups from Africa and Europe in the clean energy sector with the aim to match African and European startups to co-create complementary innovative clean energy solutions. MasterCard Foundation — Scholarships for Africans at the University of British Columbia 2021/22

The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program funds citizens and residents of Sub-Saharan Africa for graduate studies at the University of British Columbia, USA. The fields of study at UBC include Sustainable Forest Management; Environmental Management; Food Science; Land and Water Systems; and many others. European Commission — Green Transition and Energy Access in Africa

The Horizon 2020-funded European Green Deal Call seeks to support research and innovation projects that respond to the climate crisis and help protect unique ecosystems and biodiversity. The strategic call “Accelerating the green transition and energy access Partnership with Africa” invites proposals for energy solutions that consider climate adaptation and mitigation potential with the aim of providing sustainable energy access in Africa. The Commission considers proposals requesting a contribution of between €5-10 million. At least two partners from at least one African country must be part of the consortium to be eligible for funding. The application deadline is 26 January 2021. Link

European Commission — Overseas Biodiversity and Climate Change

BEST 2.0+ promotes the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable use of ecosystem services, including climate change adaptation and mitigation, in the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs) in the Caribbean, Indian Ocean, Pacific, Polar and Subpolar, and South Atlantic regions. Local authorities and civil society organizations are invited to submit projects with focus on local development, biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of ecosystem services. The maximum grants amount is €60 thousand over a period of 19 months. The deadline for the submission of concept notes is 22 October 2020. BEST 2.0+

Climate Change Africa Opportunities Network — Green Ambassadors for Climate in Africa

The Climate Change Africa Opportunities (CCAO) Network asks young climate and environment activists to become Green Ambassadors for climate in Africa. The network aims to promote young climate activists and support them in remaining proactive for the protection of the environment and the fight against climate change. Green Ambassadors are voluntary activists but will receive international recognition and access to networking opportunities. Applicants must be nationality of an African country and be aged 18 -35 years at the time of application. The submission period ends 31 October 2020. Become a Green Ambassador

African Development Bank — Youth Agripreneur AgriPitch Competition

The African Development Bank connects youth-led African businesses with global investors. The goal of the AgriPitch Competition is to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in agriculture among youth in Africa and improve livelihoods through inclusive growth. African companies are invited to submit their project proposals for consideration. The African Development Bank will award shortlisted businesses between up to US$40 thousand in the form of grant capital. The application deadline is 15 October 2020. Details here

U.S. African Development Foundation — Supporting African Farmers in Uganda

The U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF) invites proposals for grant financing and local support from African companies with innovative solutions to improve farmer incomes. Proposals will only be accepted from registered African-owned and led entities in Uganda that have experience working with farmer organizations, cooperatives and associations. Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association — Marine Litter and Microplastic

The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) invites expressions of interest from senior experts to prepare a report on different aspects of marine litter in the Western Indian Ocean region. The reports should focus on the status of marine litter and microplastics knowledge in the region, their ecological, human health and economic impacts, and the effectiveness of measures undertaken to address the challenge. The deadline for submission of the expression of interest is 16 October 2020. Link

EnAccess Foundation — Open Source Innovations for Energy Access

The EnAccess Foundation invites proposals for open source innovations focusing on providing energy access with livelihood focus in Tanzania. The idea is to provide households, businesses, and institutions with access to electricity and reduce energy poverty. Each project may request a grant of up to US$ 150 thousand. Eligibility extends to start-ups, companies, non-profits, individual innovators, investors, and researchers. Organizations should have a minimum of 1-2 years of business operations. The final submission deadline is 30 October 2020. Projects are selected for funding on a rolling basis, therefore, earlier submissions are highly recommended. Energy Access

U.S. Agency for International Development — Water Resources Management for WASH in Nigeria

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) accepts concept papers with focus on reducing water borne diseases. USAID intends to provide direct awards to new and underutilized local organizations in Nigeria or locally established partners. Projects should address the priority area of water and sanitation, behavior change related to WASH practices, or WASH institutional development and watershed management. USAID intends to provide up to US$10 million in total funding to be allocated over five years. The closing date for applications is 02 November 2020. Link
