Sida funds short-term training in selected development topics for participants from developing countries. The program has a strong focus on agriculture and water resources, planning and communication of climate information. Organizations in Kenya, Sudan, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe are invited to nominate candidates for the Advanced International Training Programme “Climate change – Mitigation and Adaptation.” Sida will cover the costs of the program fee and required literature as well as accommodation, meals, health insurance, and international travel. The Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC), under the program Horizon 2020, invites applications for the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) call for proposals. The objective of this call is to contribute to develop a more resource efficient and sustainable low carbon economy, particularly in rural areas, by using renewable biological resources for the production of bio-based products and biofuels. The call is open worldwide, however, only participants from EU, associated and developing countries are automatically eligible for funding. The call is open to academic institutions, non-profit organizations, and private enterprises. Projects last typically up to 5 years, and may receive funds to cover the total eligible costs of the project. The deadline for applications is 03 September 2020. Find out more 

The National Geographic Society seeks projects that focuses on archaeological, paleoenvironmental, and paleoclimatological data for the purposes of understanding of human-environmental interactions over time which might contribute to mitigating contemporary environmental and climatic crises. The Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, U.S. State Department, announces the “Building Air Quality Management Capacity in Southeast Asia” program. The project targets government entities with the intend to strengthen regulatory and monitoring capacity of government actors and expand awareness of air quality issues in Southeast Asian countries. The program intends to provide US$296,296 in funding to be used for the production of educational materials, expert workshops, and the development of a monitoring and evaluation plan to be used by key agencies. Countries eligible for funding under this award include: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. Eligibility is limited to U.S. and foreign non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and public international organizations. The application deadline is 31 May 2020. Link

The Technical University of Atlantic (Cabo Verde) seeks applications for its Master’s Program on Climate Change and Marine Sciences (MP-CCMS). The West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) offers scholarships to African MSc students. The program includes English language training for participants from Francophone countries, three semesters of joint Master’s courses, shipboard training, and a scientific trip to a German partner institution. To eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be citizens of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, or Togo. Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) supports projects on climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable energy, and biodiversity projects with climate relevance in Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The programs should have a funding volume between €8 million and €20 million (depending on thematic focus area and country of implementation). Non-governmental organisations, business enterprises, universities and research institutions from Germany and abroad are eligible to apply. Program outlines can be submitted until 14 May 2020. The UNCDF “Fond des Energies Renouvelables pour la Résilience du Burkina Faso” (FERR-BF) supports projects that accelerate the growth of income-generating activities by adopting renewable energy solutions. Grants will range from US$50 thousand to US$200 thousand. Eligibility extends to companies registered in Burkina Faso. The deadline for expressions of interest is 17 April 2020. Find out more

The British Embassy Chisinau seeks applications from organizations working on climate change and environmental issues in Moldova. This call for proposals seeks applications for projects related to renewable energy; green finance; nature-based solutions to mitigate climate change and biodiversity loss, restoration of natural habitats and ecosystems; and adaptation and resilience. Project proposals in the value range up to £20 thousand are welcome. Funding may be awarded to consortia of local and/or international organizations. The European Commission seeks to strengthen the civil society in Georgia and promote human rights and fundamental freedoms. One priority area (Lot 4) under the current call is climate change and mitigating its adverse effects, including negative impacts of environmental degradation on the public health. The Diaspora Challenge seeks scalable business solutions to social challenges in Africa. The challenge invites proposals in three thematic areas, including one on clean and affordable energy. The winning ideas will receive prototype funding of US$ 15 thousand, seed investment and mentorship to put their idea into action. Only Africans in diaspora are eligible.
