India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Research Council of Norway (RCN) will jointly fund Indo-Norwegian research in mutually agreed fields. The current call in the field of bio-economy research will focus on the following topics: agriculture and land-based food; biotech; aquaculture; and bioenergy/biofuel. Joint proposals must be developed in cooperation between principal investigators representing a research institution in Norway and a research institution in India. Each year, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation awards up to fifteen scholarships to Canadian and international doctoral candidates pursuing research related to one of its four founding themes, one of which is “People and their Natural Environment.” This theme includes studies of a social, economic or political nature that lead to the identification, evaluation, or dissemination of sustainable environmental practices. It also includes an interest in environmental security at the global level, and in the link between healthy ecosystems, communities, and individuals. Candidates must be nominated by the Canadian or international institution where they wish to study or are currently studying. Universities can nominate a candidate from their institution who is pursuing doctoral studies at another university. The deadline for submissions by the universities is 08 December 2017. The Netherlands Fellowship Program has started a new phase under the name KOP (Kennisontwikkelings programma). The first round of KOP offers scholarships for short courses in the Netherlands to applicants from the following countries: Albania, Armenia, Bhutan, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cuba, Djibouti, Dem Rep Congo, Georgia, India, Jordan, Lebanon, Macedonia, Mongolia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Surinam, Thailand, and Zimbabwe. The subject areas for short courses include many in agriculture and environment, among others. Applicants in participating countries study the course database to find short courses eligible for scholarships. The profile of each course identifies the application deadline and how to apply to the Dutch university, including contact information. The Rise Fund is partnering with Forbes and Echoing Green to sponsor the “Under 30 Impact Challenge.” The challenge is designed to celebrate entrepreneurs around the world, under the age of 30, who are building successful for-profit enterprises that drive positive social and environmental impact. The eligible sectors include energy, food and agriculture, and five others. Applicants must be under age 30, and their businesses must be in a growth phase. There are no restrictions by nationality or residence. The winner will qualify for an investment of US$250 thousand by The Rise Fund, plus an in-kind media grant by Forbes. The submission deadline is 06 September 2017.
Innovate UK and the Guangdong Department of Science and Technology seek to support innovative urban solutions in Guangdong province, China. The themes include smart platforms for sustainable urban environments, as well as others. Total project costs can range from £350 thousand to £500 thousand for projects of up to two years. CRDF Global announces the 2017 Catalyzing New Research Partnerships Program. The program aims to catalyze new international research collaborations for U.S. early-career scientists with partners in South and Southeastern Asia; Latin America: and West Africa. The subject areas of interest are biological sciences; geosciences; and others. CRDF will make travel grants up to US$10 thousand for U.S. early-career scientists residing and working in the USA to lay the foundation for new international research partnerships in the priority regions. VGIF provides grants up to US$7,500 for projects that are led by women, and that help empower women and girls in grassroots communities around the globe. Most grants are for one year. Past projects include examples in farming, kitchen gardens, water supply, and other aspects of sustaining local livelihoods. VGIF will accept letters of intent through 02 October 2017. The EC announces the first call for proposals of the ENI CBC “Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2014-2020″. The program aims to promote business and entrepreneurship (including in agriculture), and to promote coordination of efforts for environmental protection and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Project partnerships should be composed of a minimum of three eligible countries, including at least one EU Mediterranean Country and one Mediterranean Partner Country. The Global Change Leaders Program is a seven-week education program to enable women from developing countries to strengthen their leadership capacities at the Coady Institute, affiliated with St Francis Xavier University in Canada. The program offers successful candidates a full scholarship that includes tuition, travel, accommodations, and meals. Applicants should have at least four years of demonstrated leadership experience in fields such as food security, environment, and others. The application deadline is 07 September 2017. Link
