The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) seeks applications from Indigenous journalists to support the production of in-depth stories that will call attention to climate justice, biodiversity, sustainable ecosystems, Indigenous leadership. EJN welcomes any story ideas that will explore how environmental and climate change issues are linked to the rights and well-being of Indigenous peoples and communities. EJN expects to award 20 grants in total: 10 grants with an average budget of US$1,450, and 10 grants with an average budget of US$1,250. Applicants must self-identify as Indigenous and will be asked to provide details on their Indigenous affiliations in the application. Applicants can be from any country in the world. Enel Green Power (EGP) seeks to improve the environmental sustainability and biodiversity preservation of its renewable installations. In particular, EGP is looking for artificial intelligence (AI) solutions to be applied during the construction phase of renewable power plants to detect selected tree or other vegetation species that may be of particular importance for the local biodiversity equilibrium. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers reporting grants to support the production of in-depth or investigative stories that will highlight progress toward a post-pandemic “green recovery”. EJN welcomes stories that engage audiences to better understand the commitments (or lack thereof) from governments, administrations, corporations and other authorities to progress towards a green, sustainable future. EJN expects to award 10 grants with an average grant of £1,100. Applications are open to journalists and other expert media practitioners with experience in investigative reporting and covering environment and/or issues related to climate. UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) program makes grants for conservation research through its Young Scientists Awards. The Award targets young researchers (not older than 35 years) carrying out interdisciplinary research on ecosystems, natural resources and biodiversity. Priority is given to projects carried out in the world’s biosphere reserves. Awards are up to US$5 thousand. The deadline for applications (English, French) is 14 January 2022. The Coral Reef and Natural Resources Initiative provides grant funding for management and protection of coral reefs and combat invasive species in the U.S. insular areas. Priority will be given to projects that help address a variety of threats to coral reef ecosystems, research into how sea level rise impacts coral reefs, and to combatting and eradicating aquatic and terrestrial plant, insect, and animal invasive species. The U.S. insular areas include American Samoa, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and the Republic of Palau. The maximum budget is US$300 thousand for 12 to 36 months. One Young World seeks applications for Afri-Plastics Challenge. The challenge supports the development of early-stage products, technology and/or services that encourage the reduction or elimination of plastic usage across Sub-Saharan Africa. 10 selected finalists will receive a grant of £75 thousand to support in the development and validation of their solutions. Applicants can be formally constituted and operating in Sub-Saharan Africa as either a registered business or NGO, but applications from individuals and community groups will also be accepted. The United Nations World Wildlife Day organizes an international film showcase along the theme of “Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration”. Organizers seek films that explore the threats to wild fauna and flora, their central importance for their habitats and ecosystems and for the communities who live near them, and initiatives to conserve them. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers journalists from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda reporting grants of up to US$2 thousand to produce investigative stories about illegal wildlife trade and environmental crime in East Africa. Grants are open to professional journalists and media organizations and can be used to produce stories in any of the following mediums: print, television, radio or online. The Conservation Finance Alliance (CFA) Incubator seeks to support innovative ideas and solutions to conservation finance challenges that have significant positive conservation impacts. CFA will identify and support five projects in conservation finance, including ventures that can generate a financial return and conservation finance concepts. The size of the grant is US$20 thousand. The CFA is focused on high biodiversity areas, especially Africa, but proposals are not restricted to any specific geographical region. The Logan Nonfiction Program invites applications from writers, documentary filmmakers, photographers, and multimedia producers from all around the world to participate in a 10-week workshop at the Carey Institute for Global Good. The fellowship combines virtual and in-person programming in two classes per year of 10-12 fellows per class. Applications are accepted from professional journalists and filmmakers working on topics representing socially relevant political, health, environmental, human rights, and justice topics.
