The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) announces a call for full proposals for the selection of regional research hubs to advance skills and policies for an inclusive and sustainable future of work. This initiative supports high-quality, innovative and gender responsive research that addresses key Future of Work challenges, including climate-resilient food systems. Regional research hubs can submit budget requests of up to a maximum of CA$1.7 million. IDRC is expecting to fund 5 regional research hubs in Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, MENA and LAC. Pitch AgriHack is a digital agriculture competition focused on accelerating entrepreneurial growth in the agriculture sector in Africa. The competition invites African businesses to pitch their approach to driving technological innovation in the agriculture sector. The competition provides cash prizes totaling US$45 thousand. A fourth invite-only category will award up to US$1.5 million in grants to scalable ventures that are already generating measurable impact for Africa’s smallholder farmers. The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) offers a limited number of grants of up to €5 thousand for short scientific visits to early-career scientists who reside in an economically disadvantaged country to visit a forest research organization overseas. The duration of the scientific visit should be agreed between the applicant and host organization and last approximately three months. The U.S. Government seeks to support projects that secure economic security of women in agriculture in Tunisia. Funds are available to support projects that empower previously marginalized women working in agricultural cooperatives to use innovative technical and entrepreneurial approaches to mitigate the impacts of climate change, increase profitability, and protect against food insecurity. The estimated award is US$1.5 million per year over the course of 3 years. Eligible applicants include U.S. or foreign non-profit organizations; institutions of higher education; international organizations; and small businesses. The program will build the capacity of journalists to cover food security, food production, markets and climate issues. The United States Agency for International Development in Vietnam (USAID) seeks applications from qualified entities to implement the USAID Climate Resilient Agriculture in the Mekong Delta. The purpose of the program is to advance low-emissions, climate-resilient agricultural livelihoods combined with biodiversity conservation to support carbon sequestration, healthy ecosystems, and resilience of vulnerable communities. Sustainable Ocean Alliance and Environmental Defense Fund offers a Fellowship to early-career entrepreneurs and organizations working on projects anywhere in the world that benefit fisheries and promote community resilience to climate change. Fellows receive grant funding and special access to mentorship and online courses to develop new leadership and technical skills. The Ocean Data Challenge calls for startups and social enterprises that use ocean data to boost ocean conservation and promote the sustainable blue economy. Solutions need to contribute to the sustainability and resilience of the Western Indian Ocean, aligning with the Great Blue Wall Initiative and delivering benefits to people and nature. Priority is given to companies or social enterprises with a sustainable funding model. Non-profit organizations with a revenue generating project may also be considered. The European Commission seeks to increase the capacity of civil society, youth organizations, farmers’ organizations and local authorities as drivers of local development. The goal is to create opportunities for youth employment, especially in rural areas, as well as social entrepreneurship in rural/marginalized areas. The overall amount made available under this call for proposals is €500 thousand. Halcyon supports African entrepreneurs with innovative solutions that can improve the livelihoods of farmers while increasing access to quality food for the most vulnerable. The Food & Agtech Fellowship will be delivered in a hybrid modality, with three virtual meetings, a one week in-person residency at Halcyon and a one week in-person residency in Nairobi. Participants receive US$5 thousand per venture equity-free stipend to use toward travel expenses to attend the residencies, a one week long residency at Halcyon’s facilities in Washington, DC (USA), and a one week long residency in Nairobi (Kenya).
