Inspire Africa — Training Program for African Entrepreneurs

Inspire Africa​’s Train-the-Trainers is funded by the US Embassy Consulate (Lagos, Nigeria) and designed to empower young business leaders across Nigeria, Ghana, and Tanzania. Thematic areas may fall into one or more categories of the Terra Viva Grants Directory. Participation is free and accommodation, food and transportation during program will be provided for all selected participants. Applicant must have an existing start-up business or a well-researched business idea awaiting implementation. The application deadline is 23 October 2017. Register for Train the Trainers Program

UK Natural Environment Research Council — Exploring Colombian Bio Resources

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) invite research proposals under the ‘Exploring and understanding Colombian bio resources’ call. Collaborative UK and Colombian research projects should support the identification and understanding of the benefits provided by biodiversity, new technologies, and social frameworks.The specific themes are described in the announcement. IREX — Community Solutions 2018-2019

IREX Community Solutions is a professional development program for community leaders in eligible countries to participate in a four-month fellowship with a local nonprofit organization or government agency in the USA. The subject areas include environmental issues (among others). Applications are accepted from eligible countries in East Asia and the Pacific; South and Central Asia; Sub-Saharan Africa; North Africa and the Middle East; Europe; and Latin America and the Caribbean. Masdar Institute — Graduate Studies in Environmental Sciences in the UAE

The Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi provides a cross-disciplinary program of study and research focused on sustainable technologies and policies. Masdar offers full financial scholarships to qualified candidates for masters and doctoral degree programs. Subject areas include water and environmental engineering, among others. World Wildlife Fund U.S. — Grants for Conservation Workshops in 2017-2018

WWF-US offers up to US$7,500 for workshops that train communities, stakeholders, park guards, and others on conservation issues. Applying organizations must have an established presence in an eligible country (countries are listed in the announcement). The workshops should focus on practical skills and field activities to increase local learning and build capacity. The next application deadlines are 01 November 2017; 01 February 2018; 01 May 2018; and 01 August 2018. Link

SeaWorld and Busch Gardens — Grants for Wildlife Conservation, Research, and Education

The Conservation Fund makes grants for wildlife conservation, research, and education. Applications are accepted from non-profit organizations, government entities, and schools and universities in the USA and other countries. Most grants are under US$50 thousand. Global Social Venture Competition — Competition 2018

The Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) is a partnership of business schools in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with mentoring, exposure, and funding to support their social ventures. Past winners include plans for water supply, energy micro-credit, agricultural technology, ecological building materials, and other environmental themes. The GSVC will award cash prizes up to US$40 thousand. The deadline for the first entry round in all regions is 04 December 2017. About the Competition

KR Foundation — Reducing Fossil Fuels

The KR Foundation makes grants for environmental communications and advocacy, with a special focus on reducing investment and consumption of fossil fuels. The Foundation aims to address root causes of climate change and environmental degradation, and safeguard the planetary boundaries. Grants are to charitable nonprofit organizations. The amount of funding per project typically ranges from DKK 0.5 million to DKK 5 million for projects of up to approximately three years. Visionaria Network — Promoting Improved Cookstoves in East Africa

Visionaria Network welcomes applications for support from the Empowered Entrepreneur Training Fund (EETF). EETF partially subsidizes training to sell cookstoves and other energy products in East Africa. The EETF will train entrepreneurs and sales agents – particularly women – who sell or contribute to the value chain of improved cookstoves. The EETF will cover the costs up to US$5 thousand of certified trainers to lead the training, and 50% of the logistical costs of the training. The application deadline is 12 October 2017. Connect4Climate — Climate Communications Campaign

In collaboration with partner organizations, the World Bank Group’s program Connect for Climate is sponsoring the #Uniting4Climate communications campaign. In the lead up and during COP 23, partners in the campaign will share messages, host events, and showcase climate solutions under the #Uniting4Climate hashtag. The campaign especially invites proposals for a virtual reality (VR) production in the form of a short description and short sample video that uses VR to illustrate and explain climate solutions and action. The winner or winners will be presented in November at the COP23 in Bonn, and they will be eligible for other publicity and possible prizes. The deadline for entries is 15 October 2017. Read more
