Ocean Innovation Challenge — Area-Based Management and the Blue Economy

The Ocean Innovation Challenge (OIC) seeks innovative solutions for ecosystem-based management of marine ecosystems. Solutions must indicate effective strategies for the management of Marine Protected Areas (MPA) while enabling coastal communities and nations to realize enhanced social and economic benefits from the sustainable utilization of their ocean and coastal resources. Governmental agencies, NGOs, private sector (including start-ups), academia, UN, and intergovernmental organizations are eligible to apply. World Academy of Sciences — PhD Training Fellowships for Women Scientists

The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) invites women scientists in the field of agriculture (and other sciences) from science and technology lagging countries to apply for the OWSD PhD Training Fellowships. Each fellow will receive a monthly allowance to cover basic living expenses, a special allowance to attend international conferences, travel expenses, medical insurance, and the opportunity to attend regional science communications workshops for up to four years. EU-LAC Interest Group — Science, Technology and Innovation

The EU-LAC Interest Group launches a Joint Call to enhance the bi-regional cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation. The aim of the call is to initiate sustainable and multilateral research cooperation between researchers from Europe, Latin-America and the Caribbean countries. Transnational consortia are invited to submit proposals related to six topics in the thematic fields of Global Challenges, Health, Biodiversity, and Energy. U.S. Embassy in Madagascar — Workshops for Environmental Stewardship

The U.S. Embassy in Madagascar announces funding for lectures, seminars, training, or workshops improving environmental stewardship, sustainable management of natural resources, and biodiversity conservation. Funding will range from US$2 thousand to US$5 thousand per project. ETH Zurich — Doctoral Scholarships in Engineering

Engineering for Development (E4D) awards two doctoral scholarships per year and promotes projects that are directly relevant for improving the livelihoods of underprivileged people in low-income countries. Funding of CHF 175 thousand is available to cover salary costs of selected doctoral students for three years. Interested candidates have to find an ETH professor who supports their application. BBVA Foundation — Award for Environmental Communication

The Biophilia Award for Environmental Communication recognizes the work of professionals and organizations worldwide in any aspect of environmental communication, especially in the areas of biodiversity conservation and climate change. Contributions may encompass a wide spectrum of formats, styles, channels, and projects in any medium. Eligibility extends to natural or legal persons of any nationality engaging professionally in any facet of environmental communication. One award will be given comprising €100 thousand. U.S. Embassy Mogadishu — Small Grants Program

The U.S. Embassy announces assistance for community projects in Somalia. Priority areas include one on mitigating the effects of climate change. Projects should focus on educating the public about the effects of climate change and raise awareness about efforts to mitigate its impact. The average contribution is US$25 thousand per project. U.S Embassy Bujumbura — Small Grants Program

The U.S. Embassy announces an open competition for organizations and individuals to submit applications to carry out a project in Burundi. Priority program areas include projects that mitigate the effects of climate change, promote minimizing waste and regenerating our resources, and support protecting the natural environment and sustainable agriculture. Programs and projects will be funded with up to US$20 thousand. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations, academic institutions and individuals. World Academy of Sciences — TWAS-CUI Fellowship Program for Postgraduate Research

The TWAS-CUI Fellowship Program for Postgraduate Research offers fellowships to young scientists from developing countries (other than Pakistan) who wish to obtain their PhD in natural sciences. Fellowships are tenable in the departments and laboratories of the campuses of the COMSATS University Islamabad (Pakistan). Duration is from six months to a maximum of 3 years (18 months for a sandwich program). CUI will provide a monthly stipend which should be used to cover living costs. SADC Secretariat — Water Fund

The SADC Regional Fund for Water Infrastructure and Basic Sanitation (SADC Water Fund) is the key financing facility for the development and integration of the water sector in the Southern African region. The Fund finances infrastructure projects to improve the supply for drinking water and water for agricultural use for the poor. The Fund will finance major service contracts only. Therefore, only projects requiring a grant of a minimum of €2 million and a maximum of €4 million will be considered for support. Eligibility extends to governments of SADC Member States and their agencies (water utilities, local government, municipalities, etc.) and regional institutions promoted by governments.
