Eastern Africa Farmers Federation — Support for Young Farmers in Africa

The Eastern Africa Farmers Federation in partnership with IFAD calls for innovative ideas from rural youth groups in agriculture and agribusiness related enterprises. Young farmers will receive technical support, mentorship, access to potential funders/investors and other partnership opportunities. Eligibility extends to groups or individual farmers (35 years or less) from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda. Applications have to be received by 06 June 2018. Find information on how to apply

Unilever — Young Entrepreneurs Awards 2018

The Unilever Young Entrepreneurs Awards invite nominations of individuals ages 18 to 35 anywhere in the world who have initiatives, products, or services that address sustainability challenges in four categories. The categories are “farm to table” (sustainable agriculture and food and drink nutrition); opportunities for women; waste management; and water management. The awards will be made to individuals who are putting their ideas into action, i.e., who are already having an impact. Unilever will recognise up to eight winners in 2018, each of whom will be awarded a cash prize in addition to one-to-one mentoring support for a year. The overall winner will receive the “HRH The Prince of Wales Young Sustainability Entrepreneur Prize” of €50 thousand. The deadline for nominations is 30 June 2018. Link

Government of Canada — Women’s Economic Empowerment in Ghana

The Government of Canada seeks preliminary proposals (stage I) under the Innovation for Women’s Economic Empowerment in Ghana call. (Note: This may include one or more categories of the Terra Viva Grant Directory). Proposals must contribute to the achievement of enhanced economic empowerment, well-being and inclusive economic growth for women in Ghana. Successful pre-proposals will be invited to submit a full project (stage II) and be considered for funding, receiving between $5 million and $10 million over a period of five years. Newton Fund — UK-Colombia Agri-tech Catalyst 2018

UK organisations can apply to work with Colombian partners on innovative agricultural solutions in Colombia. Subject areas are new technologies and innovations in the Colombian agriculture sector, particularly by female smallholder farmers. Early-stage awards range from £150 thousand to £500 thousand for up to 18 months. Late-stage awards range from £200 thousand to £800 thousand. Agri-tech Catalyst funding is available to UK businesses, UK research organisations and partners in Colombia. The registration deadline is 18 July 2018. Link

United States Government — Science Prize for Women

The 2018 ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women seeks to identify and recognize ASEAN-based, early to mid-career women who are using applied sciences to solve agricultural challenges. The top two finalists will be invited to compete in a pitch competition during an ASEAN Ministerial event in the Philippines in October 2018. The overall winner will receive $20 thousand. Eligibility extends to female scientists from any ASEAN member state under the age of 40. Applications are accepted until 06 May 2018. Know more

Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation — Pitch AgriHack 2018

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB) launches the Pitch AgriHack 2018. The theme for this year’s edition is “Women entrepreneurs innovate for agricultural transformation in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific”. The competition is open to both male and female founders and co-founders of e-agri startups offering digital services to the agricultural sector. Applicants must be aged between 18 to 35 years and need to be nationals and residents of African, Caribbean or Pacific countries. 50% of finalists will be women founders or co-founders of startups. Roth Family Foundation — Fellowship for Short Courses related to Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation

The Roth Family Foundation offers three full fellowships per year for IHE Delft Short Courses related to Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation, to female water professionals from Sub-Saharan Africa. The fellowship covers the tuition fee, study related costs, insurance and contributes towards the costs of living and travel. Eligible candidates must be female, have a Bachelor of Science degree and at least two years of working experience. A list of eligible short courses can be found in the announcement. U.S. Agency for International Development — Accelerating Women Entrepreneurs

USAID accepts applications for the Accelerating Women Entrepreneurs prize. The prize provides acceleration services including investment readiness consulting, investor matchmaking support, and business analysis to women entrepreneurs. Projects may be focussing on various thematic areas around the main topic agriculture, including aquaculture/livestock, pest management, irrigation and water, and postharvest among others. Eligibility extends to women-owned or operated commercial enterprises in sub-Saharan Africa that provide services and projects to smallholder farmers. Applications must be submitted by 25 April 2018. FIRE Africa — Women Empowerment and Community Networks

The FIRE Africa Grants support new projects from organisations led by female entrepreneurs focusing on practical solution(s) that use technology to address specific challenges faced by women and girls. Selected projects will receive up to US$15 thousand and benefit from a series of institutional strengthening and capacity building activities aimed at providing the knowledge, tools and contacts needed to further advance successful initiatives. Projects from African-based public or private sector organizations, universities, or research and development institutions, and non-government organizations will be considered. DAAD and SEARCA — In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme

DAAD offers scholarships for PhD and Master studies. The scholarships are intended for graduate and postgraduate students from South East Asia who want to pursue Master’s or PhD courses in sustainable agricultural and rural development in their home country (In-Country scholarships) or in another South East Asia country (In-Region scholarships). DAAD In-Country/In-Region scholarship holders are also encouraged to apply for a research grant in Germany for 2 up to 6 months. The scholarship covers tuition; study and research allowance; food, lodging and incidental expenses; travel; and insurance. Female applicants are especially encouraged to participate.
