The Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) will invest up to £9.3 million in demonstration-stage projects of commercial products and solutions that have the potential to transform lives in developing countries. The project must be relevant to one of 10 Sustainable Development Goals listed in the announcement, including SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation; SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities; SDG 13: Climate Action; SDG 14: Life below Water; SDG 15: Life on Land. The maximum grant award per project is £60 thousand. The lead applicant must be a UK business and will distribute any funding to international (non-UK) partners. International Water Center — Australia Awards Scholarship (Indo-Pacific region)
Australia’s International Water Center provides funding for international students from the Indo-Pacific region. Scholarship recipients can to undertake full time undergraduate or postgraduate studies in Master of Integrated Water Management or Master of Catchment Science at participating Australian universities. European Commission — Supporting CSOs to achieve the SDGs
The European Commission seeks to support civil society organizations as actors of governance in order to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The EC will provide financial assistance to inequality initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. Each region has specifically defined program priorities, including income and wealth inequality, land rights, access to natural resources such as water for agriculture. Any requested contribution under this call for proposals must be €3.6 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations established in the European Union or the developing countries outlined in the call for proposals. TRANSFORM — Sanitation for Underserved Urban Areas
TRANSFORM offers support to water utilities in Sub-Saharan Africa with innovative ideas and WASH solutions that meet the sanitation needs of underserved consumers in urban areas. Two successful projects will receive up to £250 thousand in funding, in addition to in-kind support over a 12-18 month period. Joint applications from NGOs, academics, consultants, and funders based in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe are encouraged. The Global Challenges Research Fund invites applications to grow research capability in the UK to meet the challenges faced by developing countries. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Environment and Climate Action in Southeast Asia
The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in any one of the following countries: Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Thailand. The priorities include one on environment and climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, as well as on water management. The average contribution is expected to be in the range of C$15 thousand to C$30 thousand per project. Larger projects may be considered on an exceptional basis.
