The Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, U.S. State Department, announces the “Building Air Quality Management Capacity in Central Asia” program. The project targets government entities with the intend to strengthen regulatory and monitoring capacity of government actors and expand awareness of air quality issues in Central Asian countries. The program intends to provide US$296,296 in funding to be used for the production of educational materials, expert workshops, and the development of a monitoring and evaluation plan to be used by key agencies. Countries eligible for funding under this award include: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Government of India — Cleaning the Ganga and Agri-Water
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) India and the Dutch Research Council (NWO) aim to contribute to cleaning the Ganga, with particular focus on the impact of agriculture on the Ganga water system. Proposed projects may focus on river basin system management and research, propose interventions to improve agricultural water management, or produce science-based recommendations for policies and regulations that contribute to increased water awareness. Proposals should furthermore be characterized by equal partnership and sustainable collaboration between the Indian and Dutch partners. Applications can be submitted by consortia that include research organizations, academic institutions, and/or public, semi-public or private organizations (for-profit or non-profit). Consortia can apply for a maximum of €700 thousand at NWO (Dutch research partners) and a maximum of Rs. 5.5 crores from DST (Indian research partners). The deadline for submissions is 12 May 2020. US Department of State — Academy for Women Entrepreneurs in South Africa
The U.S. Embassy South Africa announces an open competition for organizations to submit concept notes to carry out a training program for women entrepreneurs in South Africa in collaboration with the Arizona State University. (Note: This announcement seeks implementing partners. It does NOT seek applications for participation in the program.) The Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) participants will engage in lessons on business management and network with mentors from their regions and the United States. The implementing partner will also be expected to organize a pre-launch training program for facilitators throughout South Africa, to occur in Johannesburg. Fondation SUEZ accepts applications for the Acting for Natural Assets program in search for “Biodiversity and nature-based solutions.” Applicants must demonstrate how their project addresses the issue of conserving biodiversity or restoring ecosystem service. The project is situated in France or the French overseas territories. SUEZ will donate a total amount of €100 thousand that will be divided up between three projects according to their needs. U.S. Agency for International Development — Save Forests and Biodiversity in the Philippines
USAID aims to combat threats to biodiversity caused by habitat loss and degradation due to deforestation, mining and marine ecosystem degradation, and overexploitation in the Philippines. Therefore, USAID seeks projects and activities to be implemented in areas of biological significance and/or land areas of high climate change mitigation potential. The total estimated budget under this call is US$22 million. USAID intends to make two to three awards. U.S. Department of Agriculture — Borlaug Fellowships in Agricultural Science and Technology
The Borlaug Fellowship Program supports short-term research projects to improve agricultural productivity, economic development, and food security in over developing countries. The program offers training and collaborative opportunities for agricultural research, international agricultural economics, leadership, and policy. The program lists the eligible countries, and the research priorities for each of them. Fellows work one-on-one with a U.S. mentor who will coordinate the training program. After completion of the 6 months fellowship, the mentor will visit the fellow’s home institution to continue collaboration. USDA will select U.S. host institutions and mentors for each fellow. International Fund for Agricultural Development — Results Based Management for Rural Transformation
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) seeks results based management approaches to enhance project management for rural transformation. The selected grant recipient (or consortium) will receive a three-year grant for a total amount of up to US$2 million (cash and in-kind co-financing is required). Eligibility to receive cash grants extends to non-profit organization, universities, vocational training providers, private sector companies and research institutes.
