Earth Journalism Network — Reporting on Air Pollution

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) invites journalists from Nairobi (Kenya) to apply for a story grant to report on air pollution in the city. Journalists are encouraged to examine the key sources of air pollution in Nairobi and its impacts on the local environment, economy and health, among other topics. Robert Bosch Foundation — Africa Science Leadership Program

The Africa Science Leadership Programme (ASLP) seeks to identify and select leading African researchers in basic and applied science, engineering, among others. (Note: This may include one or more relevant categories of the Terra Viva Grants Directory.) Participants will receive training in the areas of thought leadership, team management and research development. Most training, travel, meal and accommodation costs will be covered by the program. Technische Universität Dresden — Forest Governance Scholarship for PhD

The Department of Forest Sciences at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences offers a Forest Governance Scholarship for PhD dedicated to research in the field of “Forest Farmers’ Organizations in timber value chains: Financial performance, power, and governance”. U.S. Department of State — Combating Wildlife Trafficking through Outreach and Awareness

The U.S. Government announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that counter trafficking of endangered and protected species for use in traditional medicine globally. The U.S. Government will mobilize resources, and strengthen operational capacity to combat nature crimes, including wildlife and timber trafficking. The program goal is to engage civil society and/or local NGOs in the prevention of trafficking of endangered and protected species. Funding ranges from US$500 thousand to US$1 million. Earth Journalism Network — Media Workshop on Natural Resource Governance

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) hosts a media workshop with the aim to improve journalists’ knowledge and reporting skills to tell impactful and in-depth stories about natural resources governance in the Mekong region. The three-day workshop will be held in English in early July, at a venue in Thailand. Following the training, participants will be invited to pitch story ideas. EJN will award 16 grants of US$1,500 each to journalists to produce their proposed stories. The workshop is open to applicants from the five Mekong countries: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. The application deadline is 21 May 2023. Mekong Media Workshop

International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development — Training in Earth Observation and Geospatial Information Technology

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) invites women to apply for a theoretical and hands-on training on the use of earth observation (EO) and geospatial information technology (GIT). The four-day course provides young and early-career women with theoretical and practical knowledge to use EO data and GIT, with real-world examples from the HKH region. The training event is open to women from the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan. Thomson Reuters Foundation — Rural Poverty and Agriculture

The Thomson Reuters Foundation invites journalists from Latin America to register for a workshop on rural poverty and agriculture. The program will build the capacity of journalists to cover food security, food production, markets and climate issues. Applicants must be full-time journalists or regular contributors working for media organizations based in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador or Peru. Emerging Wildlife Conservation Leaders — Training Program 2023

The Emerging Wildlife Conservation Leaders’ training program helps develop early-career conservation professionals through a combination of skills training, networking opportunities, and the completion of a global wildlife conservation initiative. Participation in the program lasts for two years. Applicants should have at least three years experience in wildlife conservation, with at least 15 years in the profession ahead of them. French Institute for Development Research — Climate Education in the Caribbean

The French Research Institute for Development (IRD) seeks to improve primary, secondary and higher education on geohazards and climate change in the Caribbean region. The grant recipient needs to develop teaching materials and tools for basic and higher levels education and be able to develop a regional database to facilitate the sharing among institutions in the Caribbean region. United Nations Development Programme — Young Leaders Development Program

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Samsung Mobile announce Generation17 – a joint initiative aimed at empowering young changemakers to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. Samsung and UNDP provide mentorship, technology, and networking opportunities to 14 young leaders across six world regions. Applicants need to be between 18-30 years at the time of application.
