IHE Delft announces a call for “Research for Development Proposals led by Institutes from Developing Countries”. The purpose of this call is to encourage collaboration between researchers from developing countries and to stimulate problem-orientated research to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to water and development. Projects may apply for €100 thousand and should address one or more of the following themes: (i) Gender and inclusiveness in relation to water and development; (ii) Efficient water management, particularly in the agricultural sector; (iii) Improved catchment area management and safe deltas; (iv) Access to clean drinking water and basic sanitation; (v) Water diplomacy. American Society for Microbiology — Visiting Research Professorships in Microbiology
American Society for Microbiology (ASM), in partnership with the Indo-US Science & Technology Forum (IUSSTF), announces the ASM-IUSSTF Indo-US Professorship in Microbiology. This program seeks to broaden scientific collaboration between India and the United States though travel grants that support research and teaching partnerships. A grant up to US$5 thousand is provided to cover travel costs, visa and contingencies. Funds must be matched by the host institution (note: matching grants may be in-kind contributions). Climate Justice Resilience Fund — Grants for Climate Change Adaptation
The Climate Justice Resilience Fund seeks grants applications for community-led, social justice approaches to climate change adaptation and resilience-building. Grants are made to women, youth, and indigenous peoples to create and share their own solutions for resilience. CJRF grants focus on four interrelated issues connected which climate change: (1) Water Access; (2) Food Security; (3) Sustainable Livelihoods; and (4) Migration and Relocation. The CJRF grantmaking strategic framework prioritizes multi-year grants and grants larger than US$100 thousand. Non-profit organizations from Alaska, Kenya, Tanzania, Bangladesh, and the India are invited to apply. The Go. Go Love Foundation seeks applications from local charities and non-profit organizations that work with local communities. Thematic areas include WASH, resilience building to climate change, disaster/risk reduction, and others. Applicants may request funding of up to AUD30 thousand over a 1-2 year project period. The current round of funding targets small to medium non-profit organisations working in developing countries in Asia (South-East, South and/or Central), Africa or Central America. Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum — Water Advanced Research and Innovation Fellowships
The Water Advanced Research and Innovation Fellowships fund Indian participants to gain exposure and access to research facilities in water resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Daugherty Water for Food Institute. Fellowships of three to twelve months are for Indian scientists holding a PhD in water science and engineering. Internships of three to six months are for individuals currently engaged in their PhD studies in water sciences in India. The application deadline is 10 November 2018. Link
UK Government — Transforming Energy Access in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia
The UK Government invests up to £10 million in technologies that will help countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia access secure, low cost and low carbon energy. (Note: £3 million of the funding is set aside for bioenergy projects.) International applicants must apply as part of a collaboration with a UK organisation. Oriental Bird Club — Bird Conservation in Asia
The OBC Conservation Fund makes grants for bird conservation in Asia. Grant-making priorities are projects that benefit globally threatened bird species; that conserve threatened bird habitats; and that are led by Asian residents. Small Conservation Awards are up to £1,500 for projects of 12-18 months, with applications before 31 March of each year. UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — UK-India Agricultural Data
The BBSRC and partners announce a joint call for collaborative research proposals focussing on enhancement of agricultural data relevant to animal and plant health in India. The grants will be short-term projects of up to 18 months awarded to a maximum of £150 thousand in the UK, with matched contribution from the Indian Government’s Department for Biotechnology (DBT). Tata Group — Tata Social Enterprise Challenge, 7th Edition
The Tata Group, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC), seeks to identify promising social enterprises in India. Proposals are invited for social enterprises in agriculture, water and sanitation, energy, and other thematic areas. The proposed enterprises should create social impact in India, although applicants do not have to be Indian nationals. The top three winners of the competition will win cash grants up to 2 lakhs each, to be invested in their ventures. Selected social entrepreneurs will be offered mentorship and an opportunity to be incubated at IIMC. The deadline for submitting impact proposals (business plans) is 30 September 2018. Link
The Commonwealth — Commonwealth Young Person of the Year 2019
The Commonwealth awards exceptional young people, including entrepreneurs, inventors, environmentalists, women’s rights advocates, and others, who are making a difference in their communities. Entrants must be aged 15 to 29 years and can nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else. This year’s finalists will receive a trophy, a certificate and cash grants to help them continue their development work. All finalists will be awarded £1,000. Each selected regional winner will receive an additional £2,000, and the Commonwealth Young Person of the Year will also receive an additional cash grant of £2,000.
