The European Commission seeks to support the economic growth of renewable energy sources as a means of decarbonising local energy systems (e.g. isolated villages, small cities, urban districts, rural areas with weak or non-existing grid connections). The objective of this call is to create a preliminary analysis of the local case as part of the content of the proposal and propose to develop solutions and tools for the optimization of the local energy network, that also have a high replication potential across Europe. The European Commission seeks to understand the polar processes in a global context in the Arctic and Antarctic Regions. Proposals should aim at developing innovative approaches, building on existing data resource, and state-of-the-art climate models, to assess the key physical and chemical processes in the ocean and atmosphere. World Academy of Sciences — Science Awards 2020
Each year, the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) awards nine awards of US$10 thousand each to individual scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least 10 years. The disciplinary fields include agricultural sciences, biology, and seven others. TWAS particularly encourages nominations of women scientists, and scientists from scientifically-lagging countries. MaRINET2 — Access to Ocean Energy Research Infrastructures
MaRINET2 is working towards unlocking the energy potential of our oceans. The transnational access program offers free-of-charge access to the research and testing facilities of the MaRINET2 network. MaRINET2 provides a contribution of €1000 per week towards travel and subsistence expenses. In 2020 one period of access with a 6-month duration will be organised. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation in the Mediterranean Basin (Palestine)
The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) invites Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) for small grants (up to US$20 thousand) for projects that support the conservation of plants that are critically endangered or have highly restricted ranges within Palestine. Nigeria Energy Forum — Africa Energy Innovation Competition 2020
NEF invites applications for the 5th Africa Energy Ideas Competition which aims to accelerate the development of early-stage energy firms across Africa. The competition is open to early-stage energy entrepreneurs from Africa to collaborate with local research institutions or industries. Young professionals between the ages of 18 and 35 years from Africa are invited to participate and nominate a relevant local research institution or organization. Association of Avian Veterinarians — Support Of Avian Research (SOAR)
The Association of Avian Veterinarians seeks research proposals addressing significant areas of need for research in avian species (atherosclerosis and cardiac disease; avian bornavirus, feather-damaging behavior). Preference will be given to grant submissions relating to avian species traditionally kept as companions, however proposals relating to zoological species will also be considered. Agropolis Foundation — Agriculture-based Solutions
The Agropolis Foundation seeks to promote the agro-ecological transition by promoting practices and solutions which conserve natural renewable resources. Therefore, the Foundation invites research and project proposals along three transversal axes: Agriculture and climate change: adaptation and mitigation (Axis 1); Conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity (Axis 2); Responsible production and consumption (Axis 3). The call will finance two types of projects. Type 1 projects may request between €150 thousand and €250 thousand, Type 2 projects may request between €20 thousand and €25 thousand. Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute — Short-term Fellowships for Tropical Research
The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) invites applications to the Short-Term Fellowship Program on tropical research. The fellowship is directed to graduate students, but awards are sometimes given to undergraduate and postdoctoral candidates. The program has a three month duration period and provides a stipend to cover living expenses while at STRI ($1000/month), a modest research allowance; and round-trip airfare.
