The student outreach program offers students in the Wallonia region of Belgium the opportunity to raise awareness and organize activities related to development aid issues. The ARES program offers financial support between € 1,500 – 4,500 per outreach project. Past projects include the organization of an ‘awareness day around the theme of agribusiness’ and a ‘sensitization day for graduates on socio-environmental conflicts and management of natural resources in Peru’. Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) launches its 13th Annual Photos and Videos Contest 2018. The contest seeks striking photographs and short videos that tell the story of how financial services empower poor people and communities in Africa. The grand winner receives a US$ 2,000 gift certificate for photography or video equipment. The 2018 CGAP Photo Contest is open to all photographers and videographers. The KR Foundation makes grants for environmental communications and advocacy, with a special focus on reducing investment and consumption of fossil fuels. The European Environment Agency (EEA) organises a photo competition to raise awareness about environmental issues related to water topics. This year’s competition WaterPIX focuses on the importance of clean water for all living beings. The winners in each category (Water and me, Water in the nature, and Water in the economy) will be awarded a cash prize of €1000. International Center for Journalists — Global Climate Reporting Program 2018
The ICFJ accepts applications for the Global Climate Reporting Program. Participants will learn from global experts about how extreme weather and climate affect human health and safety and natural ecosystems, and produce stories on these critical topics. Participants will travel to San Francisco in September to attend the 2018 Global Climate Action Summit. Airfare, lodging and meals during the program will be covered by the organizers. International Women’s Media Foundation — African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative
The IWMF created the African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative (AGLRI) to provide training and support for female in-country journalists from the Central African Republic, Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. The aim is to provide necessary funding to independent journalists to cover under-reported issues including issues of empowerment, democracy, food security, and conservation efforts. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers Story Grants to support the production of in-depth stories on climate and environmental change in the Bay of Bengal region. The wildlife photography contest series for 2018 is open. Wildlife Photo will award prizes worth US$18 thousand in total (including photography trips and equipment).
