The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) announces a new fellowship for journalists interested in attending and reporting from the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (October/November 2024). Fellows will travel to Cali to attend the entire duration of the UN biodiversity negotiations and receive non-refundable economy-class airfare, accommodation, meals, travel medical insurance, and ground transportation costs related to fellowship participation. To be eligible for the fellowship, the applicant must be a professional journalist from an established media house and reporting from a low- or middle-income country. The Climatelinks Photo Contest seeks submissions that show the breadth of issues, impacts, and solutions to climate change. The 2024 Photo Contest theme is “In Focus: Communities Confronting Climate Change.” Participants can submit up to 5 photos that show local communities addressing climate change across 14 categories. Climate Tracker — Scholarship to Cover the COP16 on Biodiversity
Climate Tracker supports journalists from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, and Peru to cover in person or virtually the COP16 on Biodiversity in Colombia (October/November 2024). Climate Tracker will select six journalists for travel to Colombia, to cover COP16 in person. European Climate Pact — Photo Competition
The European Climate Pact photo competition aims to showcase climate action. Photos should capture a climate-friendly daily routine, climate action, or a climate solution. The competition is open to everyone. 10 winners will receive an invite to the Climate Pact annual event in Brussels in 2025, with travel and accommodation covered. Fondation Carmignac — Photojournalism Award 2024
The 15th edition of the Carmignac Photojournalism Award is dedicated to Southeast Asia and the violations of human and environmental rights caused by illegal fishing and overfishing. The laureates receive a €50 thousand grant to carry out a 9-month field report with the support of the Fondation Carmignac. The Award is open to all photographers, of all nationalities. Global Landscapes Forum — African Youth Storytelling Contest
The Global Landscapes Forum hosts a storytelling contest for young Africans. The story should revolve around the key themes of a thriving Africa, including but not limited to food sovereignty, biodiverse landscapes, ecosystem restoration, and climate justice, among others. The three best stories will receive prizes of €500, €300 and €200 respectively. The contest is open to anyone between the ages of 18 and 35 born and/or currently living in Africa. Pacific Community — Photo Contest
The Pacific Community (SPC) launches a photo contest. Submissions must illustrate climate change, marine environments, fisheries, and/or aquaculture in the Pacific Islands region. Climate Tracker — Caribbean Climate Justice Journalism Fellowship
Climate Tracker selects fellows for a 5 months training experience with a range of environmental, storytelling, and journalism experts. Participants will get the chance to put what they’ve learned into practice, by engaging in new media journalism, through podcasts, social media storytelling, and newsletters. Fellows receive a monthly stipend of US$200 to publish climate stories. Eligibility extends to Caribbean journalists interested in covering climate justice. The deadline to apply is 22 April 2024. Pulitzer Center — Ocean Reporting Network
The Pulitzer Center accepts applications for the Ocean Reporting Network (ORN). The network will establish a collaborative ecosystem of journalists around the world to uncover the harmful and illegal practices of the fishing and extractive industries, and systemic threats to marine biodiversity and coastal communities. The Pulitzer Center will cover a reporter’s salary and provide additional support for the media outlet that employs the journalist. East-West Center — Research Innovation & Collaboration and Exchange Fellowships
The East-West Center (EWC) provides fellowships for scholars, researchers, or journalists from the Indo-Pacific Region, including the United States, to undertake research or other projects on topics related to environmental issues and geopolitics in the Indo-Pacific region.
