The Iris Project — Prize for Nature Conservation

The Iris Prize celebrates and supports young people accelerating action to protect and restore nature. The Iris Project awards three grants each year: US$5,000 for ages 14-24 awarded for a new idea; US$10 thousand for ages 16-24 awarded for an existing project; US$15 thousand for ages 16-24 awarded for an established project. OPEC Fund — Annual Award for Development

The OPEC Fund honors outstanding contributions to sustainable development. Each year, the annual award recognizes a different theme of particular relevance to global development. In 2023, the theme is “Gender Equality and Climate Action”. The prize is US$100 thousand. The nominee must be a charitable organization. Deadline to submit nominations is 12 May 2023. Earth Journalism Network — Building Awareness about Renewable Energy in India 

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) seeks to boost content production and distribution of information to build awareness about renewable energy in India. EJN will support the production of in-depth content on the subject with approximately Rs 90,000 per selected applicant. Content can be produced in English or local languages, or both. Applications are open to India-based content producers (online, print, television, radio) and other experts with a demonstrated interest in covering the renewable energy sector. Village Capital — Ecosystem Restoration

Village Capital supports 10-12 impact-driven startups building locally viable ecosystem restoration solutions in Africa. The program addresses entrepreneurs championing forest restoration, biodiversity conservation, wetland restoration and water conservation,  sustainable agriculture and climate tech solutions. Participants will receive mentorship and access to an investment analyst. Eligibility extends to (for-profit) startups building locally viable ecosystem restoration solutions. The startup has to have legal incorporation and operations in at least one Sub-Saharan African country. Applications close 14 May 2023. Know more

Thomson Reuters Foundation — Rural Poverty and Agriculture

The Thomson Reuters Foundation invites journalists from Latin America to register for a workshop on rural poverty and agriculture. The program will build the capacity of journalists to cover food security, food production, markets and climate issues. Applicants must be full-time journalists or regular contributors working for media organizations based in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador or Peru. Forrest Research Foundation — Research Fellowship

The Forrest Research Foundation at the University of Western Australia offers research fellowships to attract early-career post-doctoral researchers. The fellowship comprises a salary, an accommodation allowance, and a one-off research and travel allowance. The duration of the Fellowship is up to three years on a full time basis. United Nations Development Programme — Young Leaders Development Program

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Samsung Mobile announce Generation17 – a joint initiative aimed at empowering young changemakers to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. Samsung and UNDP provide mentorship, technology, and networking opportunities to 14 young leaders across six world regions. Applicants need to be between 18-30 years at the time of application. Zoological Society of London — Protected and Conserved Area Fund

The EDGE Protected and Conserved Area Fund supports projects with a clear focus on creating new protected or conserved areas or the expansion of existing protected or conserved areas. Thomson Reuters Foundation — Communicating Just Transition Issues

The Thomson Reuters Foundation offers a free communication course for organizations in Brazil working in communication and journalism. The hybrid course will consist of a series of 4 weeks of training in which participants will receive training in parallel with climate journalists. Earth Journalism Network — Media Workshop on Covering Marine Pollution

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) hosts a virtual media workshop (June 2023) for journalists interested in reporting on marine pollution. Journalists will have the opportunity to workshop their story ideas, network with peers and editors, and connect with thematic experts and sources for their reporting. Applicants can be from any country in the world. Applicants from coastal countries are preferred. Selected participants will be eligible to apply for a story grant.
