The Roddenberry Foundation invites proposals for projects that address the challenges of an unpredictable and fast-changing global landscape. The four winners of the Roddenberry Prize will each receive US$250 thousand for their work in one of the following fields: Education, Science, Environment, and Humanity. EuroMarine — EMBRC Services for Early-Career Researchers
The European Marine Biological Research Centre (EMBRC) offers grants for services to 10 EuroMarine early-career scientists (PhD students or researchers within 5 years of their PhD degree). Applicants must belong to an organization that is a member of EuroMarine. Each successful applicant will receive a grant of €5 thousand to cover the cost of EMBRC services. Newton Fund — Newton Prize for Excellence in Research and Innovation
The Newton Prize recognizes the best research or innovation projects that promote economic development and social welfare. In 2020, the Prize celebrates the impacts made as a result of international collaborations in Newton partner countries (Egypt, Kenya, Jordan, Turkey, and South Africa). One Newton Prize of up to £200 thousand will be awarded to each of the 5 eligible partner countries. The award is open to applicants who currently hold a Newton award. Swedish International Development Agency — Training Workshop: Mine Water and Mine Waste Management
Sida funds short-term training in selected development topics for participants from relevant organizations and agencies in Eastern and Southern Africa. Invitations are open to applicants for the Advanced International Training Programme “Mine Water and Mine Waste Management.” The overall objective of this program is to develop a sustainable use of natural resources and to secure safe living environments for future generations. Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund — PhD Studies in India in Ecology and Environment
The Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund offers scholarships to Indian nationals and nationals of other Asian countries for doctoral studies at universities in India. Areas of specialization include ecology and environment (among others). Scholarship applicants must already be admitted for a Ph.D. degree at a recognized institution of higher education in India. Students will receive a maintenance allowance, including tuition fee, of Rs.18 thousand per month. The application period to the Fund is April-May, with a deadline of 31 May each year. Link
United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization — Fellowships at Chinese Universities
UNESCO and the China Scholarship Council announce the availability of 75 fellowships under “The Great Wall Program” for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Chinese universities. Applications are invited from eligible developing UNESCO member states in Africa, the Asia–Pacific region, Latin America and Caribbean, the Arab States, and Europe and North America. Fellowships are for one year, and most fellowship programs are in English. Among the many participating Chinese universities that admit scholarship students are some that offer agriculture, forestry, environment, and other disciplines in natural resources. Climate Food and Farming Research Network — PhD Research on Climate Change Mitigation in Smallholder Agriculture
CLIFF-GRADS is a joint initiative of the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change (CCAFS) low emissions agriculture flagship and the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA). The program aims to build the capability of early career agricultural students in developing countries to conduct applied research on climate change mitigation in agriculture. CLIFF invites applications from PhD students from developing countries for short-term (4-6 month) scientific training and research stays at CGIAR research centers or affiliated research institutions. The focus of the research is greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration associated with climate change mitigation in agriculture in developing countries. Grants are up to US$12 thousand.
