The PACEsetter Fund aims to accelerate the commercialization of off-grid clean energy by providing early-stage grants that allow businesses to develop and test innovative products, business models, and systems. Projects must focus on small-scale systems that improve the viability of off-grid renewable energy for under-served individuals and communities in India that do not have grid-connected power, or that have limited or intermittent access. International Council for Science — Grants on Energy, Health, and Natural Disasters in African Cities
The International Council for Science (ICSU), in collaboration with partner science organizations, offers research grants on the inter-relationships among energy systems, health impacts of air pollution, land use and urban planning, adaptation to climate change, and disaster risks in African urban settings. Grants are up to €90 thousand for two years. Applications are welcome from early-career African scientists having no more than 10 years’ work experience following their PhDs or equivalent research experience. Santa Clara University — Global Social Benefit Incubator 2017
The GSBI at Santa Clara University (USA) is an annual program to strengthen social enterprises that use science and technology to address problems of people living in poverty. Past participants include many in water supply, energy, agriculture, and environment in developing countries. The GSBI Accelerator assists selected participants with business plans and other capacity building in support of investment. UN-Habitat — Demonstration Center for Clean Energy in Cameroon
UN-Habitat welcomes expressions of interest to build a Multifunctional Clean Energy Centre in one of the secondary towns of Cameroon. The project will serve as a demonstration center for sustainable building design, renewable energy, and provision of sanitation service through a public toilet. UN-Habitat will contribute a maximum of US$35 thousand towards the implementation of the project. U.S. Department of State — Morocco Green Growth Climate Challenge
The U.S. Department of State will make one grant for approximately US$400 thousand to assist Morocco with a competition to help build capacity to mitigate the impacts of climate change through the use of clean energy and energy-efficient technologies. The challenge will feature small grants for workshops on energy technologies, public policy, and business development. Applications to manage the challenge are invited from non-profit NGOs; private, public, and state institutions of higher education; and for-profit organizations and businesses in the U.S. and elsewhere (e.g., Morocco). Qatar National Research Fund — Women in Science
The Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), in partnership with CRDF Global, welcomes applications from Qatari and Qatar-born female PhD students and MSc graduates for the Women in Science fellowship. The selected WIS fellows will spend four months at a U.S. university department under the direction of leading female researchers for work in one of the following four topics: ecology of infectious diseases; environmental science; cyber security; or materials science in energy. LEDS Global Partnership — Fellowships on Low-Emission Development Strategies
The LEDS Global Partnership offers fellowships for individuals and teams of practitioners to be embedded with leading institutions to learn practical lessons that they can apply to low-emission development strategies and/or nationally determined contributions in their home countries. Fellowships will be awarded to individuals or groups of national or sub-national government officials who play a significant role within LEDS development or implementation.
