British Council — Newton Travel Grants for Researchers

The Newton Fund Researcher Links Travel Grants support early-career researchers to undertake an international research placement to strengthen links for future collaboration. UK’s current partner country for these travel grants is South Africa. Subject areas for the workshops vary by partner country to include agriculture, climate and environment, sustainable energy, water and sanitation, and several others. Researchers that reside in the UK can apply for funding to visit a university or research institution. Researchers residing in South Africa can apply for funding to come to the UK. Climate Tracker — Online Course: Climate Journalism

Climate Tracker’s Train-the-Trainer course covers basic journalism skills, such as pitching, article-framing, interviewing, data visualization in the context of human-interest climate journalism. Participants will receive a certificate of completion to demonstrate their competence as a climate communication trainer. The e-course is open for participants worldwide. More information

IDEX Accelerator — Virtual Fellowship Program

IDEX invites applications worldwide for a Virtual Fellowship Program. The virtual program is designed to enable young professionals to acquire the tools and resources they need for a successful career in social entrepreneurship. Each fellow will gain access to online learning labs with 3-4 social enterprises from across the globe, webinars, and community engagement. Candidates should be 21 to 35 years old, with a minimum of one to three years of professional work experience. The application deadline is 03 May 2020. Details here

Royal Society — Fellowships for Independent African Researchers

The Royal Society, in partnership with the African Academy of Sciences, offers fellowships to African early-career researchers who have the potential to become leaders in their field. Each FLAIR Fellowship will be for two years and will offer up to £150 thousand per year, alongside training and mentoring. Applications should be within the remit of natural sciences, including agricultural and biological research, among others. Africa YES Centre — Social Entrepreneurship Training Program

The Africa Young Entrepreneur Support (YES) Program is a 6-month intensive fully sponsored entrepreneurship training that provides young African social entrepreneurs (between 18-29 years) with the resources they need to create impact in their local communities. 30 selected candidates will receive hands-on training sessions, mentorship and access to up to US$15 thousand in grants. Please note that the program requires candidates to be in Nairobi for the entire program period because travel and accommodation is not covered. National Geographic Society — Early-Career Grant

The National Geographic Society accepts applications from less experienced individuals who seek to lead a project. Applicants are not required to have an advanced degree and should submit their proposal at least four months before the project start date. Grants are typically funded for less than US $5 thousand but requests for up to US $10 thousand will also be considered. The next application deadline is October 2020. Find out more

Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research — Travel Support to Attend Meetings and Conferences

The Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) provides travel support for scientists from low- to medium-income countries to attend ocean science meetings. The purpose of this support is to help scientists, particularly early-career scientists, to network with colleagues from other countries, share their research, and form partnerships in the global ocean science community. A full list of eligible countries is given in the call announcement. The organizers of ocean science meetings select recipients for participation in their meetings. There are no calendar deadlines. Environmental Law Institute — International Fellowship Program

The Environmental Law Institute invites applications for the Jim Rubin International Fellowship. The Fellowship Program is aimed at early-career environmental lawyers. It provides mentorship and financial aid to fellows so they can conduct legal research, analysis, writing, and editing on a focused project. Preference will be given to candidates from developing countries that have a legal degree (LL.B, JD, SJD, or LLM equivalent). The application deadline is 17 April 2020. Details

Merlin Trust — Study Travel Grant for Horticulturists

The Merlin Trust offers travel grants to young horticulturists. The Trust offers up to £1500 to individual applicants to assist with foreign or domestic travel projects. Foreign citizens may apply but must be studying in a British or Irish horticultural training establishment. Eligibility extends to young horticulturists aged between 18 and 34. Submissions are considered on a rolling basis. (Note: Applications have to be submitted at least three months from the application submission date to the date of departure.) EuroMarine — EMBRC Services for Early-Career Researchers

The European Marine Biological Research Centre (EMBRC) offers grants for services to 10 EuroMarine early-career scientists (PhD students or researchers within 5 years of their PhD degree). Applicants must belong to an organization that is a member of EuroMarine. Each successful applicant will receive a grant of €5 thousand to cover the cost of EMBRC services.
