The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) launches the challenge Cities for All, which seeks to identify urban challenges in Latin American and Caribbean cities. The call focuses on vulnerability and resilience to climate change and natural disasters, among other themes. Three teams will be selected to receive technical assistance of up to $35 thousand, to work on the implementation of a prototype or pilot project. GroFin — Funding for Small and Growing Businesses in Africa
GroFin funds small and growing businesses in Africa. Grants support start-ups and growing businesses in agriculture, fisheries, energy and water sectors. Small business owners can apply for financing between US$100 thousand and US$1.5 million. Businesses that operate in Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Uganda are eligible to apply. The application deadline is 31 December 2022. German Missions — Small Scale Projects in South Asia
Germany’s Federal Foreign Office supports small scale projects in South Asia that address the needs of the underprivileged. Direct financial assistance is provided to Indian and Bhutanese NGOs and religious institutions for the implementation of small-scale projects for the benefit of disadvantaged groups of society. Projects must have a clear focus on “Helping people to help themselves” and aim to improve living conditions, for example, through water supply, energy supply, food security, reconstructions after a natural disaster etc. The average funding amount is €23 thousand per project. Fondation Ensemble — Sustainable Development and Conservation 2022
Fondation Ensemble supports field projects in sustainable development and conservation. The Foundation’s focus areas are sustainable agriculture, sustainable fishing, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable technologies. The eligible countries for all supported sectors are Ecuador, Peru, Laos, Myanmar. Mozambique is only eligible for sustainable fishing projects, European countries are only eligible for rewilding projects, and Madagascar is only eligible for marine biodiversity conservation and sustainable fishing projects. German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety — Funding for Low-Carbon Development
The NAMA Facility Ambition Initiative supports countries who plan to increase their emissions reduction plans and gear toward a carbon-neutral economy. The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) provides funding and invites project applications for a combination of technical assistance and climate finance, to enable partner countries to implement their enhanced NDCs. Foundation Beyond Belief — Compassionate Impact Grant
Foundation Beyond Belief (FBB) makes grants to organizations that address critical community problems through evidence-based and culturally responsible social innovations. FBB will make one grant in the amount of US$30 thousand to one organization with the goal of increasing that organization’s ability to fulfill its mission. All applicants must be non-profit organizations with 501(c)3 status but grants are often used to support international community projects. Commission for Environmental Cooperation — Resilient Community Recovery from COVID-19
The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) seeks grant applications from organizations to support environmental initiatives that help North American communities (including Mexico) implement solutions and strengthen their capacities to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021-2023 NAPECA grant cycle will support communities hardest hit by the effects of the pandemic, particularly vulnerable populations and some Indigenous peoples. A total of C$1.25 million in grants are available for non-profit organizations that wish to engage and partner with local and Indigenous communities, academics and non-governmental organizations in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. US Department of State — Coral Reef and Natural Resources
The Coral Reef and Natural Resources Initiative provides grant funding for management and protection of coral reefs and combat invasive species in the U.S. insular areas. Priority will be given to projects that help address a variety of threats to coral reef ecosystems, research into how sea level rise impacts coral reefs, and to combatting and eradicating aquatic and terrestrial plant, insect, and animal invasive species. The U.S. insular areas include American Samoa, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, and the Republic of Palau. The maximum budget is US$300 thousand for 12 to 36 months. U.S. Mission to Zimbabwe — Funding for Community Organizations
The U.S. Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Fund (SSH) announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a small, community-based development program. The program awards grants to non-profit, community-based organizations to implement short-term (12-month), small-scale (between US$2,500 and US$8,000) development projects that include significant community involvement. Priority consideration is given to income generating projects that improve basic economic or social conditions at the village level, which may include projects in sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and access to clean water and sanitation. Prince Bernhard Nature Fund — Conservation of Endangered Species
The Prince Bernhard Nature Fund (PBNF) aims to save critically endangered flora and fauna in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. It gives funding preference to organizations in these regions, sometimes in partnership with parties in Europe or North America. Projects have to focus on critically endangered species on the IUCN Red List. Grants are up to €20 thousand or US$20 thousand. The PBNF only supports registered non-profits and favors smaller grassroots organizations over international organizations. The next application deadline is 01 February 2022. Know more
