The IRD announces funding to support multidisciplinary international teams (laboratoires mixtes internationaux, LMI) to undertake research that corresponds to IRD’s thematic priorities. These priorities include agronomy and biodiversity; bio-invasions and climate change; sustainable urban development; the ocean-climate interface; micro-biomes in agro-ecosystems; management of water resources; coastal and marine management; and others. Orangutan Foundation — Research Grants
The Orangutan Foundation offers research grants of up to of £500 to students studying orangutan behaviour and ecology or related rainforest field research in Indonesia. Preference is for research on ecology, animal wildlife density and population, animal wildlife behaviour, water analysis in Sungai Sekonyer River, and under-studied populations. São Paulo Research Foundation — Brazil/USA Research in Biodiversity 2017
The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) invite researchers to submit 5-year projects for scientific cooperation through their programs, BIOTA and Dimensions of Biodiversity. Research projects must integrate the three dimensions of biodiversity: genetic, phylogenetic, and functional. Researchers associated with public or private higher education or research institutions in the State of São Paulo submit their proposals to FAPESP. U.S. researchers submit to NSF. International Association for Plant Taxonomy — Research in Plant Systematics
The IAPT announces the 2017 round of its competitive grants program in plant systematics, with emphasis on funding students and young investigators in developing countries, but open to applicants worldwide. The award should preferably be used for supporting travel to institutions, laboratory investigations, or fieldwork (if this includes interaction with in-country specialists). Fondation Nature & Decouvertes supports projects for nature protection, environmental education, and public awareness in France. Additionally, a few grants support projects with similar themes in Francophone Africa. The next application deadline for environmental education projects (funding of €8 thousand to €25 thousand) is 01 February 2017. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation in Timor-Leste
In support of conservation in the Wallacea Biodiversity Hotspot, CEPF invites letters of inquiry from organizations wishing to work in or affect key biodiversity areas and species in Timor-Leste. Eligibility for funding extends to NGOs, community groups, private enterprises, universities, and other civil society organizations. Typical grants are US$100 thousand for periods of 12 to 30 months, although CEPF will consider proposals up to US$300 thousand for exceptionally qualified applicants. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity in Eastern and Southern Africa
On behalf of the CEPF, Birdlife International announces the 16th and final call for proposals supporting biodiversity conservation in the Eastern Afromontane Hotspot. The eligible countries are Dem Rep Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. The maximum grant is US$20 thousand. Applications need to be submitted by 23 November 2016. The Internews Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers the Biodiversity Media Grant to support journalism networks and media organizations throughout the world in increasing the capacity of media to cover critical issues of conservation and biodiversity. EJN is especially interested in projects that focus on conservation in high-biodiversity regions of the world such as the Amazon, Central Africa, and Southeast Asia. Preference will be given to applications from or affiliated with professional journalists, media organizations, journalism schools, and the like. EJN will also consider applications by NGOs or environmental groups looking to build the capacity of journalists to cover conservation issues. The average grant will be about US$10 thousand. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Grants for Biodiversity Conservation in the East Melanesian Islands
In partnership with the IUCN, the CEPF makes grants for biodiversity conservation in the East Melanesian Islands. Small and large (>US$20 thousand) grants will address biodiversity conservation in the islands region of Papua New Guinea. Funding is also available for multi-country projects covering the islands region of PNG, Solomon Islands, and/or Vanuatu. West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use — Small Research Grants on Climate Change in West Africa
WASCAL supports research to address the severe challenges posed by climate change in West Africa. WASCAL currently calls for proposals in “Building Local Capacity for Policy-Oriented Research in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation in West Africa (BLOC).” BLOC will make small research grants of between €5 thousand to €10 thousand. To be eligible for consideration, research proposals must focus on climate change adaptation and mitigation in West Africa in any of the thematic areas of biodiversity, agriculture, adapted land use, climate systems, education, health, human security, economics, and energy. Priority is given to research teams led by young researchers pursuing a career in government ministries, research, and/or teaching at a public institution in West Africa. Team work and cross-country research proposals are encouraged. The application deadline is 31 October 2016. Link
