The International ReSource Award is a prize acknowledging social entrepreneurial thinking and leadership in addressing social and/or ecological issues related to sustainable water management practices in developing and emerging countries. Each of three finalists will receive US$20 thousand and expert assistance to further develop their proposals in order to compete for a first prize of US$75 thousand. Eligibility for the ReSource Award extends to charities, non-profit organizations, and revenue-generating social enterprises working in the areas of water, sanitation, and hygiene in the developing world. Franklin Institute — Bower Award for Science Achievement 2018
The Bower Award of US$250 thousand is made to individuals who have made significant contributions to understanding and quantifying perturbations of natural systems within the biosphere, atmosphere, or hydrosphere in the age of the Anthropocene. United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification — “Land for Life” Award 2017
The UNCCD presents the “Land for Life” Award for inspiring efforts in land conservation and management. Eligibility is open to individuals and institutions worldwide that are making a significant and innovative contribution to reduce the impacts of land degradation and desertification. In particular, the focus is on helping communities at risk or forced to abandon their homes due to insecurity deriving from environmental degradation. Award winners will receive a support package from the UNCCD Secretariat to include networking with interested organizations; assistance to promote the winning initiatives nationally and internationally; and opportunities to showcase them at national and international events. Inter-Research Science Center — Ecology Prizes 2017. The International Ecology Institute in Germany annually selects top performers worldwide in the field of ecology for the Ecology Institute Prize and the IRPE Prize. The winner of the Ecology Institute Prize will be awarded €6 thousand; the winner of the IRPE Prize will receive €3 thousand. Nominations are invited from research ecologists worldwide. Disney Conservation Fund — Annual Conservation Grants 2018
The Disney Conservation Fund makes grants for wildlife studies, habitat protection, and community conservation and education in critical ecosystems around the world. DCF supports projects that build on previous work, and that have the potential to contribute to long-term conservation. Eligibility extends to U.S. nonprofit organizations. Applicants from other countries need to apply in collaboration with U.S. nonprofit partners. Grants are up to US$50 thousand for projects of up to two years. AuthorAID — Small Grants for Researchers in Developing Countries 2017
AuthorAID announces its first round of small grants in 2017 to support researchers in developing countries with travel and workshops. In this first round for 2017, AuthorAID plans to award five travel grants (US$1,500 each) and five workshop grants (US$2,500 each). AuthorAID posts the list of eligible developing countries. Earth Journalism Network — Grants for Stories on Biodiversity
The Earth Journalism Network is offering a second round of reporting grants to support the production of in-depth stories that highlight previously untold threats to global biodiversity, or explore new conservation-based solutions. Preference is for proposals that focus on new topics or stories that have not been widely covered. Eligibility for funding extends to journalists (online, print, television) and other expert media practitioners with a track record of reporting on environmental issues. Most grants will range from US$1 thousand to US$2 thousand, although larger grants can be considered if submitted by media partnerships. The deadline for applications is 17 February 2017. Link
Masdar Institute — Graduate Studies in Sustainable Environment and Energy
The Masdar Institute in Abu Dhabi provides graduate-level education and research to produce future world leaders and critical thinkers in advanced energy and sustainability. The Institute offers four types of scholarships, including the IRENA scholarship for aspiring master’s students with a desire to work in the field of renewable energy. Up to 20 applicants are awarded this scholarship at Masdar Institute every year, with support from the Government of the United Arab Emirates. Innocent Foundation — Seed Grants for Sustainable Agriculture in the Developing World
The program area “seed funding” makes grants to partner NGOs to deliver small-scale agricultural projects that have strong local impacts in the developing world. In addition to grant for agriculture, past projects include several that address water, forests, biodiversity, and related issues in environment and natural resources. Applying organizations must be registered charities in the UK. Grants are up to £30 thousand per year for three years. Link
Conservation Strategy Fund — Training Course on Economic Tools for Conservation 2017
The Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF) invites applications for its annual international training course, “Economic Tools for Conservation,” to be held at the University of California Berkeley in June 2017. The course is aimed at managers of conservation programs and protected areas; directors of NGOs; and representatives of government agencies. Applicants from disciplines such as biology, forestry, law, anthropology, and economics are encouraged to apply. Accepted applicants are responsible for seeking their own funding.
