The Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition sponsors BCFN YES! (Young Earth Solutions) as an international competition for young researchers on the theme of sustainable food systems. The program offers one-year research grants up to €20 thousand to PhD and postdoc researchers worldwide from any background and nationality. The maximum age is 35. Subject areas include climate change, resilient agriculture, sustainable water management, ecosystem services, food policy, and many others. Sustainia100 is an annual guide to 100 innovative sustainable solutions from around the world in sectors that include energy, resources, and food and agriculture — among others. Parrot Sequoia — Parrot Climate Innovation Grant
The Parrot/Pix4D Climate Innovation Grant consists of hardware and software for field research to foster innovation in understanding and mitigating the impacts of climate change. Proposals should include a geographical/mapping dimension using UAVs and Pix4D photogrammetric software, as well as multi-spectral imagery related to the technical capabilities of the Parrot Sequoia camera. World Academy of Sciences — Sustainability Case Studies
In partnership with the Elsevier Foundation, TWAS calls for case studies which present issues and challenges for sustainable development through real-life situations. The contest is open to current TWAS and OWSD PhD Fellowship recipients. Fauna & Floral International — Global Trees Campaign 2016-2017
Fauna & Flora International, in partnership with Botanic Gardens Conservation International and the Conservation Leadership Program, sponsor the Global Trees Campaign to support master’s research focused on tree species conservation. Research should focus on in situ conservation of a threatened tree species, ideally on IUCN’s Red List, and external to the countries of the OECD. Grants are up to £1 thousand. Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification — Collaboration Fund 2017
PEFC offers competitive grants in support of its mission to improve forest management and expand forest certification around the world. PEFC invites its members and other non-profit organizations to apply. Project partners may also include private and public-sector organizations. EarthCorps — International Program 2017
EarthCorps invites applications from emerging environmental leaders around the world to participate in an environmental service program in the USA. Participants from the USA and other countries take part in field projects such as tree planting, trail construction, stream restoration, and removal of invasive plants. Projects are located in the state of Washington (i.e., not Washington, DC). Applicants should be 18-28 years of age, with a university degree in an environmental field (or equivalent work experience), and speak conversational English. International participants receive a living stipend, health insurance, and accommodations with host families. However, each participant is responsible for her/his travel to Seattle, Washington. Priority consideration will be given to applications received by 09 January 2017. Link
Biodiversity Indicators Partnership — Request for Proposals
The Convention on Biological Diversity adopted the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 as a framework for the biodiversity-related conventions and for the UN system as a whole. The Biodiversity Indicators Partnership (BIP) calls for proposals addressing the Aichi Biodiversity Targets 1, 3, and 15. To fill gaps in these targets, the BIP will fund proposals for indicator development up to a maximum of £75 thousand per proposal. The deadline for submissions is 31 January 2017. Link
Climate Strategies Accelerator — Breakthroughs to End the Age of Oil
The Climate Strategies Accelerator (CSA) aims to identify and support leaders with big ideas to address the complex problem of climate change. The 2017 theme is “end the age of oil.” CSA selects prototype projects and program leaders in progressive stages, beginning with a Breakthrough Lab of intensive networking and proposal development. At the end of the Breakthrough Lab, the CSA may choose to invest in one or more candidates, who would then become program leaders, receiving US$1-2 million per year for a three-year grant period to pursue their ideas.
