The French Institute for Development Research (IRD) announces funding to support multidisciplinary international teams (laboratoires mixtes internationaux, LMI) to undertake research that corresponds to IRD’s thematic priorities. These priorities vary by geographical region to include food production and security; plant-health relationships; water resources; energy resources; ecosystems and biodiversity; natural risks; and others. The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMO BIOTROP) aims to increase the knowledge and skills of ASEAN professionals and students on a wide range of topics in tropical biology. Unless otherwise indicated, training courses are conducted at the SEAMEO BIOTROP headquarter in Bogor, Indonesia. Priority is for nationals of SEAMEO member countries, especially in the sponsored courses. The remaining BIOTROP courses and seminars for 2017 are scheduled from July through October. Orskov Foundation — Grants in Sustainable Land Use for University Students
Orskov makes grants to support student projects in agriculture and sustainable land use in developing countries. Preference will be given to training that emphasizes animal, plant, and soil interactions. Projects should have the potential to alleviate poverty and to provide sustainable environmental benefits, including adaptation/mitigation to the impacts of climate change. Applications are invited from individuals in lower-income and lower middle-income countries. The program includes student grants up to £2,500 to support studies at a university or similar organization other than the university/college in which the applicant is registered. UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — Swine and Poultry Research in Asia
The UK’s BBSRC is collaborating with partner organizations in China, the Philippines, and Thailand on research of microbiological diseases in swine and poultry. Proposals should have a UK Principal Investigator, in addition to a Principal Investigator from one or more of the partner countries. BBSRC offers up to £6 million for this research, and partner organizations in China, the Philippines, and Thailand will provide matched funding. The Sam Moyo African Institute for Agrarian Studies (SMAIAS) and the Agrarian South Network invite participation in the 2017 First Edition of the Agrarian Studies Training Institute. SMAIAS is offering a one-month workshop and course on “Agrarian Transformations in the Global South” to be held in Harare (October and November 2017). It encourages applications from young scholars in the Global South, along with social movement activists who are engaged in agrarian policy lobby and advocacy. Newton Fund — UK-China Agritech Challenge 2017
UK organisations can apply to work with Chinese partners on innovative agricultural solutions in China. Subject areas are precision agriculture; improved efficiency of sustainable agriculture; and processing of agricultural products. Eligible projects need to include one UK business and one UK higher education institute or research council institute eligible for BBSRC funding. Project partners in China need to include one Chinese business and one academic institution. Project costs can be £1 million to £2 million, with grant size not exceeding £1 million in the UK.
