European Commission — Agriculture and Climate in Mauritius

The EC calls for proposals to increase the capacity of vulnerable non-sugar smallholders and other key stakeholders towards developing and sustaining climate-smart agriculture in Mauritius. Eligibility for funding extends to nonprofit organizations in the EU and Mauritius. Grants will range from €300 thousand to €1 million, varying with cost shares. Reference EuropeAid/155919/DD/ACT/MU. French Institute for Development Research — Support for International Research Teams 2017

The French Institute for Development Research (IRD) announces funding to support multidisciplinary international teams (laboratoires mixtes internationaux, LMI) to undertake research that corresponds to IRD’s thematic priorities. These priorities vary by geographical region to include food production and security; plant-health relationships; water resources; energy resources; ecosystems and biodiversity; natural risks; and others. The maximum funding for a LMI is €40 thousand per year. The deadline for proposals is 15 July 2017. Link

U.S. Agency for International Development — Strengthening Agriculture in Kenya

USAID/Kenya announces a 5-year program of US$60 million to strengthen production and marketing systems for dairy and crop production in Kenya. The program will involve multiple regions of the country; multiple intervention strategies; and multiple partners. Eligibility to apply is unrestricted. Funding Opportunity RFA-615-17-000006. British Council — Research Workshops

The British Council announces workshops that convene UK researchers with partners in other countries. Among the workshops that have deadlines beyond the date of this posting are: China, polymer electrolyte fuel cells (deadline 30 June 2017); Mexico, sustainable aquatic resources (deadline 30 June 2017); Turkey, offshore wind and wave energy (deadline 30 June 2017); India, closed loop green technologies for rural development (deadline 14 July 2017); China, erosion control and sustainable energy in green port development (deadline 15 July 2017); South Africa, post-harvest systems using renewable and sustainable energy (deadline 16 July 2017); Brazil, biological soft matter science in agri-food systems (deadline 21 July 2017); India, waste heat harvesting (deadline 01 September 2017); Malaysia, climate resilience and urban infrastructure (deadline 14 September 2017). Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology — Training Courses, Seminars, and Workshops 2017

The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMO BIOTROP) aims to increase the knowledge and skills of ASEAN professionals and students on a wide range of topics in tropical biology. Unless otherwise indicated, training courses are conducted at the SEAMEO BIOTROP headquarter in Bogor, Indonesia. Priority is for nationals of SEAMEO member countries, especially in the sponsored courses. The remaining BIOTROP courses and seminars for 2017 are scheduled from July through October. Application forms should be submitted to the respective course coordinators at least one month in advance of any event. Link

U.S. Agency for International Development — Livestock Market Systems in Kenya

USAID in Kenya will make multiple grants (“leader plus associates”) under the Feed the Future program to assist the Kenyan livestock sector, focusing on projects in the northern counties. Project activities should aim for improvements in livestock and related market systems; expanded and diversified market-oriented livelihood opportunities; improved governance and management of range lands and water; drought cycle management; and multiple other objectives during projects of five years. Orskov Foundation — Grants in Sustainable Land Use for University Students

Orskov makes grants to support student projects in agriculture and sustainable land use in developing countries. Preference will be given to training that emphasizes animal, plant, and soil interactions. Projects should have the potential to alleviate poverty and to provide sustainable environmental benefits, including adaptation/mitigation to the impacts of climate change. Applications are invited from individuals in lower-income and lower middle-income countries. The program includes student grants up to £2,500 to support studies at a university or similar organization other than the university/college in which the applicant is registered. The application period is 01 October through 31 December of each year. Link

UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — Swine and Poultry Research in Asia

The UK’s BBSRC is collaborating with partner organizations in China, the Philippines, and Thailand on research of microbiological diseases in swine and poultry. Proposals should have a UK Principal Investigator, in addition to a Principal Investigator from one or more of the partner countries. BBSRC offers up to £6 million for this research, and partner organizations in China, the Philippines, and Thailand will provide matched funding. Each country provides eligibility rules for applicants. The deadline for letters of intent is 22 June 2017. Link

Sam Moyo African Institute for Agrarian Studies — International Workshop and Course on Agrarian Studies

The Sam Moyo African Institute for Agrarian Studies (SMAIAS) and the Agrarian South Network invite participation in the 2017 First Edition of the Agrarian Studies Training Institute. SMAIAS is offering a one-month workshop and course on “Agrarian Transformations in the Global South” to be held in Harare (October and November 2017). It encourages applications from young scholars in the Global South, along with social movement activists who are engaged in agrarian policy lobby and advocacy. Successful candidates will be fully funded by SMAIAS. The application deadline is 30 June 2017. Link

Newton Fund — UK-China Agritech Challenge 2017

UK organisations can apply to work with Chinese partners on innovative agricultural solutions in China. Subject areas are precision agriculture; improved efficiency of sustainable agriculture; and processing of agricultural products. Eligible projects need to include one UK business and one UK higher education institute or research council institute eligible for BBSRC funding. Project partners in China need to include one Chinese business and one academic institution. Project costs can be £1 million to £2 million, with grant size not exceeding £1 million in the UK.
