The eMpowering Youths Across ASEAN is a partnership programme between Maybank Foundation and ASEAN Foundation that consists of mentoring, regional leadership training, and overseas local community projects. The program aims to improve social and economic well-being of ASEAN communities through social enterprises (note: This may include one or more focus areas of the Terra Viva Grants Directory). This programme is eligible for citizens of ASEAN Member States (19 – 35 years old). The participation in this program is fully funded. Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — Biotechnology for a Sustainable Bioeconomy
This call offers funding for biotechnologies and transnational collaborative research projects. Proposals should address the sustainable production of different types of feedstocks and bioresources into value-added products or the development of sustainable industrial processes and supply services. BBSRC contributes up to £2 million under this call. To be eligible, each consortium must involve at least three partners requesting funding from three different countries. UNDP and UNESCO — Writing Competition for Young Journalists
UNDP and UNESCO jointly launch the “IATI Research Challenge for Journalists” – a research and writing competition for journalists around the world aged between 15 and 25. Journalists should investigate how their country (or a country of their choice) is progressing towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals and explore how funds for development are being utilised. Swiss Forum for International Agricultural Research — Young Scientists Mobility Grants with MENA Countries
Mobility grants allow researchers and students to build personal contacts and relationships for collaborations between institutions. Mobility grants can be awarded to young scientists who hold a Bachelor or Master’s degree and with not more than 6 years of professional research experience. Activities may include field work and/or an internship in relation to the applicant’s research project. The call is open for activities in all scientific disciplines and fields of research. Priority countries under this call are: Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates. U.S. National Academy of Sciences — Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research, Cycle 8
PEER invites scientists in developing countries to work with U.S. collaborators in research and capacity building on priority topics that include environmental contaminants, agricultural productivity and food security, biodiversity conservation, water security, low-carbon development, fisheries assessments, and others. The priorities are different for each PEER focus area (i.e., varying by regions and countries). Applicants must be based at academic institutions, non-profit organizations, or government-managed research laboratories, centers, or institutes in the eligible countries. World Bank — Ideas for Action Competition 2019
Ideas for Action is a knowledge platform of the World Bank Group and the Zicklin Center for Business Ethics Research at the Wharton School. The annual Ideas for Action competition seeks innovative ideas and actionable projects to support the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Past winners include water solutions for better fish farm yields, women-led business models to improve sustainable access to energy, web based solutions for agriculture processes, and many more. Teams must consist of two to six members and may be formed across different schools, institutions, companies, or countries. Students and young professionals between the ages of 18-35 years from around the world are invited to participate. The winners of the competition present their ideas at the annual meeting of the World Bank Group, receive support from a project incubator and coaching. Chivas Venture — Funding for Social Entrepreneurs
Chivas Venture provides start-ups and social entrepreneurs with project funding. Past projects include plastic waste, agriculture, and other environmental or humanitarian themes. 20 Finalists will participate in a 3-day Accelerator Program in London and the winners share a total of US$1 million in funding. International Network for Government Science Advice — Research in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals
The International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA) is offering six professional development and research grants for 2019 on the role of scientific evidence and advice in support of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Grants of up to to €15 thousand per project will support early-to-mid career researchers or policy practitioners on this theme in eligible low- and middle-income countries. Applicants must hold a PhD at time of application, or have at least five years full-time equivalent experience in research or as a public policy professional (e.g. advice, analysis, implementation, evaluation). UK and Russian Institutions can request up to £51 thousand to be used towards workshop implementation. All workshops must be held in 2019.
