The AJSPI, in partnership with the BNP Paribas Foundation, launches its first climate investigation grant for European science journalists. The purpose of this grant is to encourage ambitious field investigations focused on understanding climate, adaptation to climate change, and different mitigation strategies. Eligibility extends to professional journalists (print, radio, TV, web), and members of a national association of science journalists, based in Europe. The U.S. Department of State announces a funding opportunity for a cooperative agreement entitled “Clean and Advanced Energy Investment Accelerator (CAEIA)”. CAEIA aims to remove barriers to the deployment of clean and advanced energy policy in developing countries and to enable and mobilize funding for the deployment of renewable and other advanced energy sources. CAEIA will support a limited number of developing countries that may include Vietnam, Colombia, Mexico, Indonesia, Philippines, and Kenya. Projects can request up to US$641,975 for 36 months. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers Organizational Grant to support the creation of media organizations in the Bay of Bengal region, that aim to improve the quantity and quality of information about climate change. Particular attention should be given to the adaptation needs, challenges, efforts and success stories of vulnerable and marginalized communities. Preference will be given to applications from or affiliated with professional journalists, media organizations, journalism schools, and the like. However, EJN will also consider applications by NGOs or environmental groups looking to build the capacity of journalists to cover conservation issues. The TWAS-SRMGI DECIMALS fund has been set up to provide grants to small research teams in developing countries, allowing them to analyze the impacts that SRM might have in their regions. The programme provides support for research projects in solar radiation management, climate change, agriculture, natural disasters, and climate impact analysis. A research grant of up to US$ 70 thousand will be provided for up to two years. Eligibility extends to scientists with PhD degree and significant research experience. The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation makes grants to solve social and environmental problems in the USA and internationally. The Foundation’s grant making for its environmental sub-program in Climate and Energy makes grants to strengthen global climate policy. The Foundation also funds improvements in transportation to reduce air pollution — focusing on China, India, Europe, and the United States. Most of Hewlett’s grants are by invitation. However, the Foundation accepts letters of inquiry (LOIs) in certain programs — including Climate and Energy. LOIs can be submitted at any time. Link
UNFCCC-GIR-CASTT is a professional training on greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories to national experts from developing countries. The goal is to enhance the technical capacity of individuals and to improve the overall competency in reporting and in contributing to climate action. The four-week intensive training course will begin on 25 June and be held in Seoul (South Korea). Current government officials, consultants and researchers in the fields of greenhouse gas emissions, emission reductions, and climate change are encouraged to apply. Participants will be provided a return ticket from and to their home countries, as well as room and board for the duration of the training. Applications have to be sent by 7 May 2018. The Climate Systems Analysis Group (CSAG) at the University of Cape Town organizes a “winter school” intensive course, with the next one scheduled for five days in July 2018. The course is presented by facilitators from CSAG and other institutions to take participants through the full spectrum of topics related to climate and climate change, with an emphasis on issues in developing countries.
