China-UK Newton Fund Researcher Links seeks early-career researchers from the UK and China to participate in the workshop “Coastal and Offshore Renewable Energy Systems under Extreme Events”. The focus of the workshop is the use of environmental science, technology and engineering to tackle key challenges affecting the development of coastal infrastructures and offshore renewable energy systems. During the workshops researchers will have the opportunity to present their research, share their research expertise and do networking. The European Commission seeks to support local Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) as actors of governance and development work in the field. The objective is to increase participation of CSOs in addressing climate change through disaster risk reduction or resilience. Non-profit organizations established in Fiji or the European Union can request grants between €300 thousand and €680 thousand to implement activities that mitigate climate change. The European Commission seeks to promote entrepreneurship in support of Lebanon’s clean energy transition, while supporting climate change mitigation. The priorities of this call for proposals are synergies between green entrepreneurs and new business opportunities in renewable energy; investments in alternative sources of energy; and solar energy. The Belmont Forum’s collaborative research action on Resilience in Rapidly Changing Arctic Systems (CRA Arctic II) is an initiative to monitor and understand the complex changes occurring in the Arctic. This call supports medium-sized research projects with 3 to 4 years duration, with a recommended budget of up to €1.5 million. Participating countries in this Arctic call are Canada, Denmark, France, Japan, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and USA. All proposals must integrate across the natural sciences and social sciences, and they should include participation by three or more of the partner countries. The Alliance launches a four-year clean cooking market development project in Haiti. The project aims to set the foundation for the transformation of the clean cooking market to cleaner and more efficient cookstoves and fuels in Haiti. The overall objective is to reduce the negative climate, environment, economic, and health impacts from traditional cooking practices. With funding provided by Germany, WASCAL engages in research to help tackle the severe challenges posed by climate change, focusing on West Africa. The WASCAL Graduate Studies Program offers full scholarships to support four master’s and six doctoral programs implemented at ten universities in West African countries. WASCAL’s member countries are Bénin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Niger, Mali, Nigeria, Sénegal, and Togo. Doctoral students may spend up to six months at a host institution in Germany. Graduate students have access to the WASCAL research facilities located in various watersheds of West Africa. Applicants can apply for early-stage grants between €200 thousand and €500 thousand. The minimum required co-financing is 30% of the total project budget. WASCAL funds research projects that assist in developing the required human capital and decision-making tools for delivering innovative solutions in key regions that are expected to be severely affected by climate change. Funding is provided to institutions of higher education, governmental organisations, NGOs, and companies in Germany, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, and Cabo Verde. The ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Youth (SOMY) announces the 5th ASEAN Youth Video Contest (AYVC) focused on the theme “Renewable Energy: Powering ASEAN’s Bright Future”. Young ASEAN filmmakers are invited to submit a 60-second video on the theme “Renewable Energy” showcasing what renewable energy sources mean to the future of youth and the region. The competition is open to amateur filmmakers (18 to 30 years old) from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. 10 selected finalists will participate in a video production workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam (April 2019).
