Internews Earth Journalism Network (EJN) seeks applications from journalists to take part in a media workshop on climate change reporting in the Bay of Bengal. The workshop will focus on climate change in the region, with a focus on how at-risk communities are responding to environmental pressures. EJN will pay for travel, accommodation and meal costs of selected participants. Journalists from print, web, radio and television are eligible. The European Commission seeks project proposals to support societal resilience, improve emergency and disaster management as a response to climate related, natural and man-made disasters. The aim of this topic is to develop innovative EGNSS applications and to make applications more affordable, easy to use. Proposals may requests a contribution of between €1 and €3 million. The European Commission seeks project proposals to better understand the comprehensive environmental impacts from the wide scale adoption of a range of potential emission reduction solutions together with any secondary effects on the on the marine environment. The aim of this call is to identify emission reduction scenarios and activities that will provide comprehensive information concerning the predicted dispersion of discharges from shipping and any long term environmental impact. Actions should address one of the following sub-topics: Feasibility of negative emissions for climate stabilisation; or Land-based mitigation. The National Geographic Society seeks research, conservation, and storytelling proposals to advance understanding of environmental and societal changes measured in the Himalayas. NatGeo is especially interested in projects that directly monitor or examine changing temperatures, ice volume or extent, and water pathways, or that examine impacts on at-risk downstream populations. Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India and Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), USA invite applications to the Global Cooling Prize. This prize will recognize innovations that help to tackle critical climate threats proveniente from growing demand for residential air-conditioning. Applications are open for innovators from all around the world. The competition will run for two years and will disburse at least US$3 million in interim and final awards to best innovative residential cooling technologies. The Graduate Institute Geneva invites graduate students from all around the world to register teams for the Geneva Climate Change Contest. Contributions should be theoretically grounded and offer pragmatic solutions to a relevant international development problems. The winning project will receive CHF10 thousand. This year, five prizes will be distributed; one in each of the following categories: Universities located in Africa; Universities located in Asia; Universities located in Europe; Universities located in North America and Oceania; and Universities located in South America. The Climate Justice Resilience Fund seeks grants applications for community-led, social justice approaches to climate change adaptation and resilience-building. Grants are made to women, youth, and indigenous peoples to create and share their own solutions for resilience. CJRF grants focus on four interrelated issues connected which climate change: (1) Water Access; (2) Food Security; (3) Sustainable Livelihoods; and (4) Migration and Relocation. The CJRF grantmaking strategic framework prioritizes multi-year grants and grants larger than US$100 thousand. The NEF invites applications for the 4th Africa Energy Ideas Competition that is set to accelerate the development of early-stage energy firms across Africa. The competition is open to early-stage energy entrepreneurs from Africa to collaborate with local research institutions or industries. Young professionals between the ages of 18 and 35 years from Africa are invited to participate and nominate a relevant local research institution or organization. Winners will pitch their proposed prototype model at the 2019 Nigeria Energy Forum, in Lagos (Nigeria) and a cash prize of up to $5 thousand. The deadline for proposal submission is 31 January 2019.
