The National Geographic Society seeks proposals for its program “Extreme Environments: Alpine Climate Change”. Through this RFP, NatGeo seeks to advance understanding of environmental and societal changes measured in high alpine regions. Projects may be focused around measuring the changing high-elevation environmental conditions, boosting the resilience of vulnerable communities, or climate change storytelling. Preference will be given to to projects led by researchers, conservationists, or storytellers from the greater Hindu-Kush Himalaya mountain system; the Peruvian, Chilean, and Argentinian Andes; and the mountainous regions of British Columbia. The British Council and the Newton Fund support the University of Birmingham and the University of Jordan to hold a workshop on the transition to low/ zero carbon transport in Amman. This workshop aims to provide a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration between early-career researchers addressing the global challenge of clean transport in the context of Jordan. The Climate Tracker, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), launches the Climate and Health Photo Contest 2019. The aim of the photography competition is to highlight the impacts of climate change on human health. Eight winners will be selected to produce a photostory (30 – 35 photographs) and will receive a US$200 cash prize. The European Commission aims to increase the participation of Egyptian CSOs in climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts. One of the priorities under this call is promoting the participation of youth in climate change mitigation and adaptation (circular economy, small scale renewable energy projects, water management, solid waste management etc.). The IPCC Scholarship Programme provides scholarships for PhD students from developing countries for research that advances the understanding of the scientific basis of risks of climate change. The scholarship amount is €15 thousand per year for up to two years. Climate Tracker, in partnership with the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, seeks five young climate journalists to participate in an online mentorship on climate solutions and journalism. The fellows will receive training on how to write articles on climate change and a monthly stipend of US$150. Applicants that are between 18 and 30 years old and are living in Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, South Asia, or Asia-Pacific are eligible. To participate, applicants have to write, publish, and submit a 500+ words article (in any language) on local solutions and responses to climate change. China-UK Newton Fund Researcher Links seeks early-career researchers from the UK and China to participate in the workshop “Coastal and Offshore Renewable Energy Systems under Extreme Events”. The focus of the workshop is the use of environmental science, technology and engineering to tackle key challenges affecting the development of coastal infrastructures and offshore renewable energy systems.
