EIT Climate-KIC invites proposals from Higher Education Institutions and other organizations from across Europe that are willing to deliver the Climate Leadership Journey program in their local ecosystems. The program will empower future leaders and innovators from all disciplines and all university and training levels to become active change agents. EIT Climate-KIC can provide 30% of the cost (up to €33 thousand) of the program. The call for applications closes 10 January 2022. Climate Leadership Program

The Children’s Climate Prize invites innovative and groundbreaking ideas and solutions on the issue of climate change. The prize is awarded to children aged 12-17 who have made extraordinary efforts for the climate and environment. The winners will be invited to Sweden and receive prize money of SEK 100 thousand to continue to develop their projects. Individuals, groups or organizations can nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else. Nominations from all over the world are welcome. The deadline is 15 May 2022. The International Fact-Checking Network welcomes applications to their Climate Misinformation Grant program. The initiative supports organizations working to combat misinformation to actor, behavioral, and content trends that are unique to climate change. Climate Misinformation Grant amounts will range up to US$100 thousand. Organizations around the world are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is 27 November 2021. GSMA Innovation Fund for Climate Resilience and Adaptation seeks to help accelerate the testing, adoption and scalability of digital innovations that enable the world’s most vulnerable populations to adapt to the negative impacts of climate change. GSMA aims to test innovations that can increase the capacity of low-income and vulnerable communities to adapt, and develop approaches or business models that can be scaled to build climate resilience and adaptation. Successful projects will receive an equity-free grant of between £100 thousand and £250 thousand to scale their innovation over a 15 to 18 month period. Start-ups, small and medium enterprises and social enterprises in Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean, Latin America and Eastern Europe are eligible to apply. Applications close on 09 January 2022. The New European Bauhaus Climate Acceleration Program provides support to the most promising climate and sustainability ventures. The program seeks to support green transition in cities through architectural, cultural, and historic sites, for example, natural building materials and energy efficiency, sustainable alternatives for hardscapes as urban spaces, or urban farming and regenerative agriculture to reduce emissions. Four companies will each receive a € 25 thousand prize to accelerate their growth and a tailored package of supporting services. Eligibility extends to early-stage startups developing scalable solutions with high potential to make an impact on climate issues. Applications have to be submitted by 17 December 2021. The Climate Smart Cities Challenge is an opportunity for cities to participate as implementation partners in a city-based open innovation competition for cutting-edge solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Interventions can be across multiple sectors or a combination, such as waste management, food production, energy systems, ecosystems, green space development, and others. The competition invites cities from all around the world to apply with their ideas for creating thriving communities. Selected cities will receive help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Climate Tracker, in partnership with Clean Energy Wire, offers 12 scholarships to journalists to cover investigations into the energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean. The participant will be trained in the use of advanced media research tools and will address how the media covers the stories of energy and climate change in Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Journalists and researchers with experience in the media and investigations, under 35 years of age, are eligible to apply. The deadline to apply for this call is 10 November 2021. Link

The Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) supports the private sector to expand its clean energy technologies to Africa’s rural communities. The AECF Innovation Fund is looking to invest between US$100 thousand and US$300 thousand to support business growth for impactful innovations across clean cooking and productive use of energy technology sectors. The co-financing requirement is a minimum of 30% of the project cost. Eligibility extends to the African private sector (for-profit as well as non-profit) in Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria, Mali, and Sierra Leone. Energy Efficiency Innovation Challenge calls for the submission of business ideas or solutions that can contribute to lowering energy consumption and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Eligibility extends to companies operating or based in Afghanistan, Azerbaijan China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency supports projects that contribute to access to sustainable energy for households in developing countries. Projects under this call should contribute to access to renewable energy technologies and services. Applicants can apply for a subsidy of min. €250 thousand and max. €2.5 million per project. The program is open to activities in the following countries: Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Chad, Ethiopia, Gambia, India, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania, and South Sudan.
