The Small Grants Program awards grants for specific projects that support democracy, enhance the development of democratic institutions and foster education of civil society in Georgia. The maximum amount of a grant is US$50 thousand per project. Projects must address sustainable rural development, preservation of cultural heritage, sustainable tourism, or education. KU Leuven is the largest university in Flanders, Belgium. As one part of its cooperation to advance international development, KU Leuven offers Global Minds Scholarships to candidates from developing countries. Global Minds is a ‘sandwich’ system, which means that 50% of the research takes place at KU Leuven and 50% at the home institution of the scholar. The scholarships have a duration of 48 months. Mama Cash makes grants in support of grassroots women’s rights groups that focus on environmental justice, for example, groups that address the exclusion of indigenous women from decision-making over their land and groups that fight for their right to water, food, and a clean, safe, and healthy environment. Grants can be used for advocacy, capacity building, public education, or forming alliances across movements. The average grant size is between €20-30 thousand per year. The Big Brainstorm seeks young leaders from around the world for a two week workshop to prototype and launch initiatives to tackle the world’s most urgent sustainable development challenges. Participants apply to one of eight Action Groups, including Climate & Sustainability, among others. Each Action Group will prototype initiatives to solve real-world problems. Each Action Group will be given 8 minutes to present to partners, donors, and other young thinkers and activists. The European Commission, through the Euraxess initiative, offers the Zukunftskolleg Konnect Fellowships to support early-career researchers from Africa, Asia and Latin America. ZUKOnnect aims to extend research networks and environments through on-campus research stays at thirteen departments of the University of Konstanz. Subject areas include ecology, limnology, ecotoxicology, botany, amongst many others. The fellowship offers a stipend of €1,200/month for doctoral students and €2,000/month for postdoctoral researchers, as well as travel expenses and access to resources and events. The ASEAN-India Science and Technology Development Fund supports projects of 2-3 years between research institutions in India and collaborating institutions in the ASEAN countries. Areas of focus include environmental management, climate change adaptation and mitigation, agricultural technologies, alternative energy, biodiversity, and several others. The funds support mobility of researchers from India to partnering ASEAN institutions and vice versa, as well as some supplementary expenditures. Applications must be prepared jointly by the Indian and ASEAN partner scientists, and must be submitted to India’s DST and the ASEAN Secretariat simultaneously. CRDF Global announces a grant opportunity to support counter-disinformation initiatives that respond to active influence campaigns that undermine established norms in biosecurity. Grants are up to US$10 thousand to conduct research and develop solutions to discredit efforts by state actors to subvert international biological science. Grants should empower recipients to recognize and immediately and scientifically counter any claim of misinformation. The Polden-Puckham Charitable Foundation’s grant making in Environmental Sustainability addresses the pressures and conditions that risk global environmental breakdown. Past projects have included topics in sustainable agriculture; energy conservation; environmental degradation; and reduced consumption. The Foundation funds UK organizations for projects to promote peace and sustainable security — and environmental sustainability — including for international projects. Eligibility extends to UK-registered charities and to organizations in other countries that work through UK-registered charities. The Institute of Current World Affairs (ICWA) makes grants to support fellows who carry out self-designed independent studies for a minimum of two years in the developing world. Fellows must hold the promise of enriching public life in the United States by enhancing the understanding of foreign countries, cultures and trends, therefore candidates must show strong and credible ties to U.S. society. Proposals in the fields of environment, climate change, sustainability and conservation are welcome. Candidates who seek fellowships may reside in any developing country. The Mahathir Science Award recognizes scientists, institutions or organizations worldwide who have made contributions and innovations towards solving problems in the tropics through science and technology. This award accepts nominations in the following fields: Tropical Agriculture; Tropical Architecture and Engineering; Tropical Medicine; and Tropical Natural Resources.
