The Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum announces its 3rd call for proposals. Projects should focus on advancing reforms in the Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine), with the aim of taking a regional perspective. Among five working groups, WG3 has the theme of environment, climate change, and energy security. Grants will range from €10 thousand to €25 thousand. Evidence Action Beta calls for applications to collaborate in testing and scaling up the results of research into policies and/or programs that have the potential to benefit millions of people living in poverty. Successful candidates will collaborate with Evidence Action Beta in testing and possibly bringing a promising solution to scale. The program invites individuals or teams who have tested and found a positive impact of an intervention benefiting poor households through a randomized control trial or other rigorous empirical method. Solutions in environment, water and sanitation, etc., are of interest as long as they present an empirically-based connection to decreasing poverty. The deadline for submissions is 03 February 2017. The World Bank’s Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility (PPIAF) welcomes submissions on topics pertaining to private-sector participation in infrastructure, public-private partnerships, and sub-national finance for energy, water, and transportation. PPIAF is looking for knowledge products that provide lessons learned or best practices which can be applied across countries and across regions. Proposals are strongly encouraged to include co-financing. Proposals with a focus on gender or climate change are also strongly encouraged. The deadline for submissions is 10 February 2017. Link

WeMENA announces a challenge to help women advance solutions across eight cities in the Middle East and North Africa to build resilience to climate change. The cities are Alexandria, Amman, Beirut, Byblos, Cairo, Casablanca, Ramallah, and Tunis. The challenge categories include agriculture and food security; sustainable energy and the environment; water and sanitation; and several others. Participants in the challenge will receive business training, mentoring, and the chance to compete for a share of US$150 thousand in cash awards. In partnership with the Elsevier Foundation, TWAS calls for case studies which present issues and challenges for sustainable development through real-life situations. The contest is open to current TWAS and OWSD PhD Fellowship recipients. The categories are green and sustainable chemistry; energy; agriculture and food security; water and sanitation; science education and the workforce; and climate change and disaster and risk reduction. The IUSSTF invites applications for the “Research Initiative for Real-time River Water and Air Quality Monitoring.” This initiative aims to develop technologies for sensing, communication, and analysis of large-scale data collected from autonomous networks of perpetual or long-lived sensor nodes, followed by integration and deployment of this information for water and air quality monitoring in real-time. The swissuniversities Development and Cooperation Network (SUDAC) calls for various types of Swiss higher education institutions to collaborate with each other and with partners in the Global South to develop and organize Consortia for Education and Research (COFER). COFER will aim for stronger integration of research, education, and implementation through new collaborative networks oriented towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Each COFER must address at least two SDGs; provide at least 50% matching funds; and provide funding for partners in the Global South. The application deadline is 31 March 2017. Link
