Smogathon aims to fight air pollution through technology. Start-ups will compete for $15 thousand in cash and a contract to implement their innovation in Krakow, Poland. Smogathon welcomes participation from any group worldwide that works as a registered company, start-up, foundation, or research group with a legal entity. The U.S. Department of State announces calls for proposals for its project entitled “Small Grants – Public Participation in Environmental Protection”. The project will be implemented in Chile, Colombia, Peru, Morocco, and Jordan. The purpose of this project is to increase civil society engagement in environmental protection and promote public participation in environmental decision-making. OES/EQT will award one cooperative agreement for up to US$500 thousand covering both Middle East and South America regions or two cooperative agreements for up to US$250 thousand each. Eligibility is limited to non-profit/NGOs subject to section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. tax code, foreign non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and public international organizations. Samsung Engineering jointly with UN Environment launches the 11th Eco-generation Environmental Essay Competition inviting the youth all over the world to raise awareness on the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”. The competitions aims to collect inspiring and creative ideas on how and why we should stop using plastics or reuse plastic products. The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMO BIOTROP) aims to increase the knowledge and skills of ASEAN professionals and students on a wide range of topics in tropical biology. Unless otherwise indicated, training courses are conducted at the SEAMEO BIOTROP headquarter in Bogor, Indonesia. Priority is for nationals of SEAMEO member countries, especially in the sponsored courses. The remaining BIOTROP courses and seminars for 2018 are scheduled from July through October. The Lush Prize rewards initiatives across science and campaigning that work to end or replace animal testing. The prize consists of an annual fund of between £250 and £350 thousand. Projects and individuals working towards the goal of replacing animals in product or ingredient safety testing across five strategic areas (1) Lobbying, (2) Public Awareness, (3) Science (4) Training, and (5) Young Researcher are eligible to apply. The Belmont Forum launches a 4-year competitive call for projects on Science-driven e-Infrastructure Innovation (SEI) for the Enhancement of Transnational, Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Data Use in Environmental Change. Project teams must involve national research teams based in at least three different countries (Brazil, China, France, Japan, and USA). Small and large projects are welcome. NERC invites proposals under the Latin American Biodiversity Programme. The Programme aims to provide trans-regional understanding of the role of biodiversity and ecosystem services. Applicants are invited to submit multilateral collaborative research proposals comprising eligible UK-based researchers and at least two participating LATAM countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile or Peru). The NAM S&T Centre invites applications from scientists from the developing countries for the Joint NAM S&T Centre – ZMT Bremen (Germany) Fellowship in Tropical Coastal Marine Research. Under this scheme, five selected scientists will work with senior researchers and faculty members in fields related to Ecology, Biogeochemistry, Geology, and Tropical Coastal Marine Systems; and undertaking short-term joint research projects for a period of up to 3 months.
