Energy and Environment Partnership for Southern and East Africa — 14th Call for Proposals

The EEP for Southern and East Africa announces a new call for projects in renewable energy, energy saving, and energy efficiency. Call 14 is for early-stage projects off-grid and on-grid clean energy projects in active development phase in the range of €200 thousand to €1 million, varying with co-financing contributions. Projects should be implemented in one or more of the following countries: Botswana, Burundi, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia or Zimbabwe. World Bank — Competition for Women Entrepreneurs

The World Bank Group, in partnership with Wharton School’s Zicklin Center for Business Ethics Research, UN Development Programme (UNDP) and UN Women, seeks applications for its “SDGs & Her Competition for Women Entrepreneurs”. SDGs&Her is an online competition for women entrepreneurs from all around the world to showcase how they are supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through their business operations. The competition is open to women-owned and/or women-lead microenterprises. The top winners will be recognized at an event on the margins of the 2018 UN General Assembly Week in New York City (September 2018). The deadline for applications is 30 June 2018. Details

Succow Foundation — CADI Fellowship 2018

The Michael Succow Foundation supports early-career scientists from Central Asia though the Central Asian Desert Initiative (CADI) Fellowship Programme. The project must have a clear relevance for the country of origin (China, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan) and should focus on the increase of sustainability or improvement of livelihoods in the region. Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology — Training Courses, Seminars, and Workshops 2018

The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMO BIOTROP) aims to increase the knowledge and skills of ASEAN professionals and students on a wide range of topics in tropical biology. Unless otherwise indicated, training courses are conducted at the SEAMEO BIOTROP headquarter in Bogor, Indonesia. Priority is for nationals of SEAMEO member countries, especially in the sponsored courses. The remaining BIOTROP courses and seminars for 2018 are scheduled from July through October. Application forms should be submitted to the respective course coordinators at least one month in advance of any event. Link

Lush Retail Inc. — Lush Prize 2018

The Lush Prize rewards initiatives across science and campaigning that work to end or replace animal testing. The prize consists of an annual fund of between £250 and £350 thousand. Projects and individuals working towards the goal of replacing animals in product or ingredient safety testing across five strategic areas (1) Lobbying, (2) Public Awareness, (3) Science (4) Training, and (5) Young Researcher are eligible to apply. Google.org – Google Impact Challenge Kenya

The Google Impact Challenge Kenya supports non-profit organizations and social enterprises with game-changing ideas to create economic opportunity in their communities. Finalists get access to Google.org funding, mentorship and resources. Four winners will receive a US$250 thousand grant each and training from Google. Belmont Forum — Big Data for Environmental Change

The Belmont Forum launches a 4-year competitive call for projects on Science-driven e-Infrastructure Innovation (SEI) for the Enhancement of Transnational, Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Data Use in Environmental Change. Project teams must involve national research teams based in at least three different countries (Brazil, China, France, Japan, and USA). Small and large projects are welcome. The total funding requested must not exceed €1,5 million across all participating partners. Proposals must be submitted by 16 July 2018. Find the call for proposals

UK Natural Environment Research Council — Latin American Biodiversity Programme

NERC invites proposals under the Latin American Biodiversity Programme. The Programme aims to provide trans-regional understanding of the role of biodiversity and ecosystem services. Applicants are invited to submit multilateral collaborative research proposals comprising eligible UK-based researchers and at least two participating LATAM countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile or Peru). Up to £4.5 million is available from NERC to support projects with a maximum duration of 36 months. The deadline for submissions is 26 July 2018. Details here

Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Voice Opportunity Grants

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides opportunity grants to effectively empower and give voice to marginalized and discriminated people in low- and lower-middle income countries of Africa and Asia. The thematic areas include one for improved governance and access to productive resources (e.g., land and water) and employment. The priority countries are Cambodia, Indonesia, Kenya, Laos, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Philippines, Tanzania, and Uganda. Voice hopes to stimulate learning about the most successful methods of building community empowerment. Applications are invited from legally registered nonprofit civil society organizations and community groups. The applicant (or a consortium member) must be based in Africa or Asia, and operate in one or more of the focus countries. Grants range from €5 thousand to €200 thousand for up to 6-12 months. The British Council announces workshops that convene UK researchers with partners in other countries.
